Canada calls on Israel’s ambassador after the Israeli defense groups have taken shots near a diplomatic delegation on the West Bank with four Canadians, said Foreign Minister Anita Anand on Wednesday.
The IDF says that no one was injured in the incident.
“Relieved to know that our team is safe,” Said Anand in a post on X.
“I asked my officials to call on Israel’s ambassador to convey Canada’s serious concerns. We expect a full investigation and accountability.”
In a statementA spokesperson for IDF said that the diplomatic group that toured through the city of Jenin, “derogated” from his approved route and that soldiers have fired warning shots to get away from an area they were not allowed to visit.
The IDF said it started an investigation into what happened and will speak with the affected diplomats to update them about his findings.
Jean-Noël Barrot, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, said in a social media post that the situation is unacceptable and the Israeli ambassador in France has been called to explain it.

Minister of Italian Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani said he also calls on the Israeli ambassador in Italy to explain the incident.

In a joint statement that was published earlier this week, Prime Minister Mark Carney, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron threatened to impose ‘targeted sanctions’ to Israel in response to the renewed military offensive in Gaza and the’ completely insufficient “amount of food aid in the enclave.
The letter also stated the opposition of the leaders against “every attempt” to expand the Israeli settlement on the West Bank.
In a social media post on Monday evening, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu let the three leaders of “offering a huge prize” to Hamas with their joint explanation.
Hamas, which is mentioned as a terrorist entity in Canada, welcomed the letter in an online statement on Tuesday and called it ‘an important step in the right direction’.
Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre said this week on x That Hamas’ statement shows that Canada must take the opposite of his current approach to the conflict.
“The threat of Israel with sanctions and” further concrete actions, “while a terrorist group on their borders hostage their citizens and refuses to stop attacking Israel is wrong,” he said.
On Tuesday, the UK issued sanctions against what the three people called, two “illegal settlers” and two organizations “that support violence against Palestinian communities” in the West Bank.
