When will the Calgary Flames start trading pieces?
During an appearance on The Rod Pedersen Show on MondayJim Biringer of NHLRumors.com, NHL Full Press and RG Media was asked when the Calgary flames could start waving the white flag on the season and making trades like they did a few seasons ago.
NHLRumors.com Transcripts
Rod Pedersen: “So you were the first on the Jacob Markstrom to New Jersey two years ago, right? I remember giving you kudos for that, and it seems to have worked pretty well for the Devils. which is the number one team in the NHL today. When will the Flames start trading again? You know, when are they going to raise the white flag?
NHL Rumors: Could the Calgary Flames make more moves than Rasmus Andersson?
Jim Biringer: “I think I have to get to the 20-game mark. I’ll be honest. But I feel like we talked about it with the Rangers last year. And if you throw in this comparison and this analogy, there were a lot of distractions off the ice last year with the New York Rangers in that locker room. And I know, look, we go back to Conor McDavid. What he says when he’s professional, when we’re not, when we can’t keep that out.” of the room, what are we doing here? Why are we playing this game?
It feels like the Flames have too many distractions in their locker room. And I’ve talked to some people, and no one likes it Mikael Backlund said before the season started, about, hey, we know Rasmus Andersson is traded. I’m not sure if you should say that before your season even starts. I think we all know it. That’s what you don’t say, right? It’s something secret. We all know it, but we’re not going to say it out loud.
And I think Nazem KadriThe band’s name also remains, so they have to deal with those distractions. How do we balance? Last year we achieved 96 points. We were close to the play-offs. We want to be competitive, but we have difficulty attacking.
They finally scored five goals last night against the Rangers, who are once again not a playoff team. If anyone thought that Mike Sullivan was it going to help them, no, but I think we have to get it to 20 games, and then we’ll have to see where this team is and in the conference.
NHL Rumors: Nashville Predators are trying to find the right pieces for Steven Stamkos
And look, I think that would be the best thing to do, even though I would like to see them in the playoffs. I think they need a top pick in Calgary. I think they need a Gavin McKenna-type player who can drive the offense. We see what’s happening in San Jose. All these up and coming teams have a player like that. That would be the best thing for Calgary.
And I think we’ll see them after 20 games, maybe wave the white flag. It all depends on the record.”
NHL Rumors.com Note: Nothing will likely happen until Nazem Kadri plays his thousandth match, Elliotte Friedman reported this weekend. Teams continue to rely on Kadri, but the Flames are starting to show signs of life. He is currently their best attacking player. GM Craig Conroy believes in the team and wants them to be competitive, but before he adds or does anything, he wants to see the players find their way out of this whole thing.
Again, teams remain the Calgary flames about Andersson, Kadri and other players. It all depends on whether they decide to pull the trigger on one of these deals.
