UFC fans have been waiting weeks for fights, and we’re just hours away from the promotion’s hiatus this Saturday at UFC 324. The card is headlined by an interim lightweight title fight between fan favorites Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett.
Before the highly anticipated action, fighters up and down the card had to weigh in on Friday morning to make their fights official. Two fighters, Deiveson Figueiredo and Alex Perez, have dropped out and will lose 25% of their purses.
But it was bantamweight Cameron Smotherman’s appearance at the weigh-in that caused a stir among fans, pundits and fellow fighters.
After successfully weighing in for his bantamweight bout with Ricky Turcios (135.5 lbs), Smotherman fainted as he left the stage and fell face first. He was performed by several UFC teammates and medical personnel before undergoing treatment and initial evaluations.
Fortunately, Smotherman is medically fine and will not fight Turcios this weekend after the fight was canceled by the UFC brass.

“Obviously I’ve gotten a lot of messages, and I appreciate all the genuine concern for me,” Smotherman said.
“I’m totally fine, I’m good. I’m not quite sure what happened. I see a lot of people online saying, ‘These crazy weight cuts’ and stuff like that – I really didn’t lose much weight for this fight. I came in pretty low, but over the course of this week I haven’t cut much. I’m not quite sure what happened, and I’ve got some tests and stuff to do in the next few weeks to get to the bottom of it.
“For all the people saying I made a crazy cut, I have lost very, very little weight,” Smotherman continued. “I’m not sure what happened, but I appreciate all the concern. I’m doing absolutely fine and will hopefully be back soon. I apologize to my opponent.”
Smotherman entered UFC 324 looking to snap a two-fight skid. At the time of writing, it is uncertain whether the UFC Smotherman vs. Turcios will reschedule or move forward with alternate matchups.
