Cam Thomas leaves the Pacers game with a known Nets injury

INDIANAPOLIS – Cam Thomas is paralyzed. Again.

Brooklyn’s leading scorer had to leave Wednesday night’s game against Indiana due to an injury to the same troublesome left hamstring that ruined last season.

Thomas missed a 15-foot step back with 6:46 left in the first quarter Wednesday night against the Pacers, apparently hurting himself on the touchdown. He gingerly ran back to the court and called to the bench for a substitute, only to check out later: 21.

The 24-year-old shooting guard was quickly ruled out by Brooklyn for the rest of the night with left hamstring tightness. The severity of the injury is unclear.

Thomas had hurt the same hamstring three times last season, when he averaged a team-high 24.0 points on 438/349/881 shooting splits, but he was limited to just a total of 25 games.

After falling short of a long-term contract extension with the Nets as a restricted free agent last summer, Thomas returned with a one-year qualifying offer of $5.99 million. It was a huge gamble on himself, now a restricted free agent.

But an injury during a walking year could be catastrophic for Thomas’ outcome.

After his scoreless 5:35 on Wednesday night, Thomas is averaging 21.4 points on .402/.356/.875 shooting in eight games. Brooklyn hosts the Pistons on Friday.
