Callaway has found a way to make the fastest Chrome Tour golf ball ever, without taking the usual shortcut to making it sturdier.
The company announced its new family of Chrome Tour, Chrome Tour
“Over the past four years, we have been working closely with a material supplier to create something completely new for the industry,” Callaway Senior Director of Golf Ball R&D Eric Loper told GOLF. “It is a new material used in the outer shell layer, just below the soft urethane layer.
“Not only do we add speed through the higher modulus material, but we also reduce driver and iron spin somewhat.”
The golf balls also feature the second generation of Callaway’s Seamless Tour Aero technology, creating more uniform coverage of the golf ball and a more consistent flight.

What’s actually new in the 2026 Callaway Chrome Tour family – and why should you care?
A new Tour Flex jacket
The core of the new 2026 Chrome Tour design isn’t actually the core at all; it is in the middle layer of the golf balls, known as the mantle.
On the jacket, Callaway uses a new material with a higher flex modulus of 16 percent, which stiffens this layer of the golf ball.
Callaway
“That doesn’t sound good for a golf ball, does it?” said Runner. “But if you think about the golf ball being hit by a driver and you think about the golf ball being a spring, using a stiffer material really results in a stiffer spring. And when you compress that golf ball, it’s going to come off the clubface with more speed.”
The Tour Flex Mantle allowed both balls to gain speed off the tee, and in the case of the Chrome Tour
A consistent golf ball leads to consistent golf shots
To improve the aerodynamic consistency of the golf ball, Callaway went to great lengths.
When the golf ball cover is manufactured, there is excess material, called flash, where the two sides of the cover are joined. The typical industry practice is to buff that flash away, but that can distort the dimples around that seam line.

Instead of just buffing away the excess material at the seam, Loper says the company now grinds the cover wider, across the entire surface, to ensure a uniform thickness of the cover.
“If you take that industry-wide problem and hit a shot into the green inside seam, the ball will tend to want to fly lower and longer, and over the cross seam it will fly higher and shorter, leading to inconsistency,” he said. “While our product, regardless of orientation, will be consistently in the green.”
Even if the difference is only 5 to 10 feet on approach shots, Loeper says it can translate into a huge change in success rate.
The Callaway Chrome Tour 2026 lineup
As with the previous generation, the Chrome Tour family has a choice of three different golf balls.
2026 Callaway Chrome Tour
What is it: The Chrome Tour is the softer of the two four-piece Tour level golf balls and has lower spin throughout the bag. Additionally, the Chrome Tour will launch slightly higher than the Chrome Tour X and have a more parabolic flight.
Who is it for: For someone who wants to keep the spin low and prefers a softer feel around the greens, the Chrome Tour is your answer.

What is it: Chrome Tour The new Tour Flex Mantle reduces some of that driver and iron spin compared to the previous generation. This leads to better wind performance. Chrome Tour
Who is it for: Those looking for the most speed and a firmer feel, as well as players who need a lower launch and more spin with their irons.
2026 Callaway Chrome Soft
What is it: The Chrome Soft, a three-piece construction, is a more amateur-friendly Tour-level option with a softer feel. The Chrome Soft will launch the highest and have the softest feel of the three golf balls.
Who is it for: The Chrome Soft is for lower speed players who need a higher launch and lower spin for maximum distance.
My opinion: more speed with more consistency
The biggest insights from my testing with the new Chrome Tour golf balls were both the speed and consistency through the wind with the new golf ball.
As someone who doesn’t need more spin, I fit the Chrome Tour golf ball and was pleasantly surprised by how easily the ball reached my target, even when we hit hybrids from 200 yards away from the green.
However, where I thought the golf ball really stood out was in the wind. We were hitting shots into a crosswind of about 10 mph from the left, yet I was still able to consistently pull my ball back into the wind to go for the left pin.
That’s usually something that can be a challenge for me, but even balls that I blocked a little bit felt like they would still pull back for me. That’s not because the ball spins less, but more because of the new aerodynamics package and updated Seamless Tour Aero, Loeper told me.
I got the long game performance I wanted while still checking all the boxes I liked around the green, including how to make the ball skip, control and release. Not to mention a softer feel that I prefer.

Whatever your fitness needs, the new Chrome Tour family will be an improvement over the previous generation.
