Calgary Flames sign head coach Ryan Huska to two -year contract extension – De Win -Kolom

The Calgary Flames today announced that they have extended head coach Ryan Huska to a two -year contract extension.

Huska will now be contracted by the 2027–28 season.

The head coach of the Flames led the club in two seasons with the Flames to a record of 79-66–19 and missed the play -offs in both seasons.

Last season Huska led the Flames to finish only one point, shy to qualify for the play -offs and complete the season with 96 points.

Huska’s Coaching History

Huska has coached in the Flames organization since the 2014–15 season, that year is a member of the Adirondack Flames and continues as a coach in their move to Stockton.

After four seasons that coach the Flames agricultural team, Huska was promoted to the NHL as an assistant coach in 2018 and went to the main coach position in 2023.

Other connections with the flames are his junior gaming career alongside Jarome Iginla for the Kamloops blowers and served as head coach of the Kelowna Rockets for seven seasons, where he led the current captain Mikael Backlund.

What is the next step for Huska?

After missing last year’s play -offs, Huska will watch to get the flames back in the play -offs for the first time since 2022.

His new contract will take him to the first year of the new Arena of the Flames, Scotia Place in 2027.

The Flames will hit the ice on the road to start the season against Edmonton on October 8, so that the beginning of the year three is marked under Huska.
