Calgary Flames prospect Henry Mews out for the season – The Win Column

Devastating news: Calgary Flames forward Henry Mews has been ruled out for the remainder of the season. After taking a knee-on-knee hit in this weekend’s game against Notre Dame, the University of Michigan announced he will not return for the rest of the season.

Meet Henry Mews

The offensive defenseman was drafted 74th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft by the Flames out of the Ottawa 67’s of the OHL. In his draft year, Mews scored 61 points in 65 games as a defenseman, good for seventh among defensemen.

He followed that up last season with an 82-point campaign split between the 67’s and Sudbury Wolves. That was good for third in the OHL among all blueliners.

Mews then made the jump to the NCAA and started the season with nine assists in his first ten games. Although his defensive play was a work in progress, the expectation was that he would make progress at Michigan this year.

Unfortunately, this season is now a write-off as he recovers from this injury. Knee injuries are always difficult, but fingers crossed he can be his brilliant self again next season.
