Will Calgary trade Nazem Kadri and Blake Coleman?
Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic: LeBrun spoke with Flames GM Craig Conroy after the Rasmus Andersson trade. They discussed a variety of topics, including what comes next for the Flames. Is there any potential for Nazem Kadri and Blake Coleman to be traded? And there was some hesitation in his answer.
“It’s a tough call,” Conroy said of these two players. “Because in our position you never want to say it will never happen. If there is a deal that makes you better? It could be anyone (not just Kadri or Coleman).
You always try to focus on, ‘How do we do this? Are we getting younger? Are we going to get draft picks?” We’re just looking forward to making this team as competitive as possible as quickly as possible, but that could also mean keeping guys. I don’t even want to mention names, but you always talk to teams.”
NHL Rumors.com Note: Neither player has yet told the Flames they want out. However, the Flames have received calls from both players. As previously mentioned, it will take an offer they can’t refuse to remove both players from Calgary. But if the goal is to get younger, these are two players who can help give the Flames a great return.
Could the Pittsburgh Penguins trade for Jason Robertson?
Josh Yohe of The Athletic: Yohe writes that the Pittsburgh Penguins are interested in Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson. The rest of the league would also be interested. He is the type of player Kyle Dubas has been looking for since he took over as president/GM in Pittsburgh.
NHL Rumors: What Will It Cost the Dallas Stars to Extend Jason Robertson?
The Penguins are an older group that needs to get younger. Robertson is a restricted free agent this summer and a potential UFA in the summer of 2027. They have the assets and cap space to make it happen if they were to trade for him. It’s unlikely they sent him an offer sheet, but that was only because the compensation for a rebuilding team isn’t worth it.
NHL Rumors.com Note: This all comes down to whether Stars GM Jim Nill decides to make him available and can’t extend Robertson. Remember, Robertson just switched agents to Andy Scott, who represents Mikko Rantanen and Thomas Harley on the Stars. Both are just extensions. So it will be interesting to see if Dallas can get him signed to a number they think is fair.
Malkin wants to stay in Pittsburgh
Josh Yohe of The Athletic: Yohe writes that Evgeni Malkin wants to stay with the Pittsburgh Penguins. His agent and Kyle Dubas will meet during the Olympic Break. Nothing has changed on Malkin’s side as he wants to stay with the Penguins. This could be his last season, but he doesn’t want to retire yet.
