Only a few hours before their third presidential match, the Calgary Flames announced that they have sent Axel Hurtig and Jacob Battaglia back to their respective Junior teams. Battaglia is back at the Kingston Frontenacs, while Hurdig stays in Calgary, but with the Calgary Hitmen.
What is the next step for these players
Although both are back in the CHL, this is not the last you hear from them. Hurdig was excellent in his first game with the Flames this preseason and played as a reliable defender with a large body. He has to fill in a little more this season, but as soon as he does, the 6’4 ″ Blueliner should be a force at the next level.
Battaglia should tear up the OHL this season. After a season of 90 points last year in which he finished 11th in scoring in the competition, the second Rounder would have to end in the top 10 this year if he stays healthy. He has signed his ELC and will report to the Calgary Wranglers next season. Battaglia finished ninth in our 2025 Calgary Flames Prospect Rankings.
Training camp now up to X -players
After sending Mace’o Phillips to the USHL, the flames slowly start to find their line -up before the start of the season. They are a nice mixed line -up, with Jonathan Hbererkdeau and Yegor Sharangovich for their first games of the season alongside Hopefuls Matvei Gridin and William Stromgren.
Expect a big round of cutbacks before the end of the week, starting to send more boys to the AHL with the cheekers. With just a few weeks until the season opener there is a lot of buzz around this team. Time to get excited!
