This afternoon the Calgary Flames announced that they cut 13 players from their training camp schedule. All 13 must report on the AHL -affiliate of the Flames in the Calgary Wranglers.
The full list is Andrew Basha, Parker Bell, Lucas Ciona, Martin FrK, Alex Gallant, Carter King, Simon Mack, Etienne Morin, Connor Murphy, Jeremie Poirier, Arsenii Sergeev, David Silye and Carter Wilkie.
What is the next step for these players
Most of these players return to where they have played with the Wranglers in recent seasons. With the training camp of the Wranglers to start Monday, it makes sense that the experienced players are sent back in the lower training camp groups.
A handful of these players has them intrigue, because they are some top perspectives in the Flames system that plays their first full professional season. These include Andrew Basha, Etienne Morin and Arsenii Sergeev.
Basha will try to stay completely healthy and bounce back from his injuries due to 2024-25 season. He is full of skill, but almost a year of missed development is crucial. A strong first professional with the Wranglers was able to put him on pace again.
Morin comes from a season that saw him visit the Memorial Cup with the Moncton Wildcats. He is the ghost of some rising love of fans this year and gets respect for his skating power and ripening game. 58 points in 62 games, with an extra 20 in 19 play -off games. A player to keep an eye on, because he could jump up faster than expected.
Finally, Sergeev recently signed his ELC, which marked the end of his NCAA career. He set up a number of strong seasons in two different universities, with a .919 savings percentage this last year. Probably the backup for Wranglers this year, behind Devin Cooley or Ivan Provesetov. However, do not be surprised if he insists on that starter role.
Training camp now up to 38 players
The Calgary Flames continue to find their line -ups while the preseason comes. There are still many hopeful players, such as Sam Honzek, William Stromgren, Matvei Gridin and more.
The remaining training camp schedule is now on 21 attackers, 13 defenders and four goalkeepers, for a total of 38 players.
