Is there going to be a Calgary Flames sellout?

Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period joined Sirius XM NHL Network Radio with Steve Kouleas and Nate Thompson. Pagnotta was asked about the Calgary Flames and Nazem Kadri, and whether Kadri would be traded before the March 6 trade deadline.

NHL Rumors: Dallas and Calgary are talking about Nazem Kadri

Steve Kouleas: “The freeze will be over on the 22nd at 11:59 AM and we’ll have 12 days. I see on your list here that Nazem Kadri is on the seven hole. Will you guarantee that Kadri isn’t a Flame on March 7th, Dave?”

Dave Pagnotta: “I’m not guaranteeing anything, but I will certainly say that if the right offer comes along, Calgary will make that move, if they think it’s the right one. He’s made it known to the team that if they’re in a position to move him, he’s open to it. I believe they have a list of teams that he would accept the trade to, and between him and Coleman and maybe MacKenzie Weegar, maybe others on this team. Ryan Lomberg is another one.” He is a pending UFA, but he has also generated some interest.

I don’t think Calgary is going to be a one-and-done by moving (Ramus) Andersson yet. I think they have a few more things up their sleeve that they’re going to try to accomplish.

Minnesota is looking for a center

The Fourth Period’s Dave Pagnotta joined SiriusXM NHL Network along with Steve Kouleas and Nate Thompson and were asked about the Minnesota Wild’s search for a center and who some of the targets will be.

NHL Rumors: Minnesota Wild and Ottawa Senators

Nate Thompson: “Dave, rumor has it that the Wild are looking for another first-line, second-line center with term. What players could be available and under term that would be available to the Wild?”

Dave Pagnotta: “I’m going back to (Vincent) Trocheck for Minny. I think there’s someone on their radar. I don’t know if they’ve had in-depth conversations yet, but that’s certainly a player of interest. And obviously Bill Guerin is familiar with the player with the US. I think they’re going to look at a few others and see what’s there, what’s there.”

I mean, it looks like I mentioned Columbus. I think they’re going to have a conversation with Charlie Coyle’s camp to see if they can get something done. If they’re not even on the heater now, I can definitely see Coyle being a target for many teams, including Minnesota. I have to imagine guys like Ryan O’Reilly and Brayden Schenn will be on their radar as well.

NHL Rumors: Minnesota Wild and Colorado Avalanche

Now there is division, which complicates matters. Unless there’s been an overpayment, I don’t know if Nashville really wants to part ways with O’Reilly right now. But Schenn could certainly be a target from that side as well.

So this will really help dictate some of the market in the coming weeks, and if some of these players become available because their teams feel like they can’t sign them to extensions today, and they’re better off trying to acquire assets and lose them for nothing in July, that could open things up for a team like Minnesota, which is fishing.
