Seattle Mariners Catcher Cal Raleigh has done it again. For the 50th time, to be precise.
On Monday, the home leader of MLB shot its 50th long ball of the season, one day after beating two home runs against athletics to set the single-season record for Thuis Runs by a catcher in the history of the Major League at 49.
He ended an eight-pitch at bat against San Diego Padres starting pitcher JP Sears by hitting a solo shot 419 feet to the left field of a 92 MPH four-seam Fastball, expanding his home run lead and closer him to break other MLB and Clububecords.
Raleigh moved five home runs from the new York Yankees Hall of Fame Outfielder Mickey Mantle’s Single-Season Home Run RECORD for a Switch-Hitter, who set the goal on 54 in 1961. Raleigh is also seven home runs shy of the Hall of Fame Centerfielder (56).
With more than a month until the regular season ended on 28 September, Raleigh was also able to overthrow the outfielder of Yankees Aaron Judge Aar Single-Season Home Run Record (62) that he established three seasons ago in 2022.
The more records Raleigh breaks in his phenomenal season, the more likely he catches a judge in the Al MVP race. Judge, a dual winner, ran away early this season with the prize, but Raleigh’s seasonal Power Surge has made him close to a co-favorite to win the prize.
For each ESPN bet, Judge currently leads in 1020 opportunities, closely followed by Raleigh at -105. The gap between the two shrinks. In the speed that Raleigh plays, it will not be long before it goes, go, disappear.
