A number 1 in the PIF ATP ranking was not built in one day.
Jannik Sinner has now been erased at the top of the mountain of Tennis for 14 consecutive months. The success of the Italian has been the product of a ruthless working ethics and the desire to improve that is facilitated by his coaches, Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi.
Cahill and Vagnozzi joined the Sinner team within six months in succession in the beginning of 2022. Since then, the Italian has lifted four Grand Slam titles, the Nitto ATP Finals Crown and four ATP Masters 1000 trophies. The larger the stage, the more explosive sinner seems to be when he steps on the field.
“That is why we are so proud as coaches, because all that work that you have done in the last three years will eventually appear in a big competition, during a big tournament, for him to get through and win that competition,” said Cahill ATP Media at the Cincinnati Open. “So it’s not just four or five days when you can make those big changes. It is the combination of a year or two of him just pushing daily and ensuring that we continue to work on those things.”

Cahill specifies a clear area that he identified as a priority when he started working with Sinner in July 2022.
“One thing I said is:” The serve must improve. You are six feet four and you are a strong boy, “the Australian remembers.” Then you not only start to win some free points from your first serve, but your plus also becomes much more effective. If people can neutralize your serve, you have to work much harder for your points. ”
“Then his questions came, one after the other … It is typical for him. He wants to compete. He is a competition animal. We are currently seeing an incredible level of tennis, with Carlos [Alcaraz] And Jannik. If you look at their oeuvre in recent years, they have separated themselves from the field. Now it’s up to the field to chase. ”
Sinner will be confronted on Monday with Gabriel Diallo in the fourth round in Cincinnati. The 23-year-old Italian will enter the game with a 27-3 record for the season, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.
