Sheffield Wednesday have continued to battle despite all the noise on the pitch.

Henrirk Pedersen and his side are entrenched by embargoes, late wage payments and threats of liquidation. But in the end SWFC are bottom of the championship with only one win to their name.

In their last match, Sheffield Wednesday played at an almost empty Hillsborough, where they lost 1-0 to Middlesbrough.

The Owls performed bravely and almost deadlocked the match against a top side, but they fell short with an early goal from Morgan Whittaker.

However, Sheffield Wednesday’s battling performance is yet to produce good points. The Owls have lost their last three and have not won since their brilliant performance in Portsmouth last month.

They meet a team in a similar position in the table to Oxford United. Gary Rowett’s side lost to 10 men at Wrexham in midweek, with a goal from Nathan Broadhead proving the difference.

The U’s are therefore in 20th place, three points better off than SWFC.

Team news from Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday are in a difficult position and injuries are only making things more difficult.

Pedersen remains without Ernie Weaver, Rio Shipston, Gui Siquera, Olaf Kobacki, Nathaniel Chalobah, Pierce Charles and Di’Shon Bernard due to injuries. There’s also a new blow to worry about.

Midway through the week, the Dane confirmed that rising striker George Brown has become the latest player on the sidelines. He injured his foot under unfortunate circumstances, twisting a ball during training.

The 19-year-old is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Ethan Horvath is still suspended after his red card at Charlton Athletic.

Predicted XI

(5-3-2)

Lumley; Fusire, Palmer, Iorfa, M. Lowe, Amass; Valery, Bannan, Ingelsson; J. Lowe, Cadamarteri

Emergency loan goalkeeper Joe Lumley remains in goal for Sheffield Wednesday this weekend, both because of his midweek appearance and EFL sayings. He was fantastic against Middlesbrough, despite being lucky not to be sent off for a challenge on Tommy Conway.

Sean Fusire and Harry Amass will continue in their full-back roles, while Pedersen will continue with the same back five. In addition to Yan Valery and Svante Ingelsson, the ever-present skipper Barry Bannan will also start.

The Dane could change his forward partnership by deploying Bailey Cadamarteri in place of Ike Ugbo alongside Jamal Lowe.

The match between Sheffield Wednesday and Oxford United starts on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
