With a potential place on the Nitto ATP finals that pop up in the background, Alex de Minaur and Felix Auger-Aliassy show no sign to take their eyes off the ball at the Rolex Shanghai Masters.

The duo on Monday each maintained their respective fast starts on the Chinese ATP Masters 1000 with a commander Straight-Sets’s third round victory. The seventh placed the minaur sophisticated along the Kamil Majchr bag 6-1, 7-5 in moist conditions, while the 12th seed Auger-Aliassy Jesper de Jong 6-4, 7-5 sank. Neither the Minaur nor Auger-Aliasmetime has dropped a set about their opening two rounds in Shanghai.

The 26-year-old De Minauror broke Majchrzak’s serve five times on his way to his Tour-Tooning 36th victory over hard courts in 2025, with two of those breaks that came after he dropped himself to fall behind 3-4 in the second set. The Australian is seventh in the PIF ATP Live race to Turin and remains well placed to be eligible for the Nitto ATP final for the second consecutive year.

“I came in knowing this week how difficult the circumstances would be,” said the Minaur after an hour, 27 minutes of victory. “So the mentality is ultimately survival, finding ways and preparing for fighting every time you get onto the field. There is no such thing as easy matches, especially in these circumstances, so I am happy that I could compose myself in the second set, get the break back and finish it in two. If we had gone in a third, it would have been very physical.”

The Minaur takes on Nuno Borges in the fourth round, after the Portuguese ended up #nextgenatp Star Shang Juncheng’s Run with a 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3 triumph. If the Minaur Borges beat in the Maiden Lexus ATP Head2Head collision of the couple, he will achieve 50 victories at tour level for the first time in one season.

Auger-Aliassime also enjoyed a good day upon return to China, where he converted three of the four breaking points that he earned against De Jong. The Canadian, who was helped by a Baljon after sliding in the second set, also won 77 percent (30/39) points behind his first service, according to Infosys ATP statistics.

Now 10-2 Since the beginning of August (with both defeats in that count that comes to Jannik Sinner’s hands), Auger-Aliassy will be confronted with eighth seed Lorenzo Musetti or 26th seed Luciano Darderi for a quarter-final place. The 25-year-old is 10th in the live race, only 580 points behind the eighth placed Musetti, looking for a Nitto ATP final after his debut in 2022.
