Ahead of Gameweek 17, transfer activity in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) remains high.

Based on matches, form, injuries and bans, these players are transferred/eliminated most often.

Above: From Tuesday evening, the most bought (left) and most sold (right) players will go to Gameweek 17

But whether it is a good idea remains open to debate.

Here we share our thoughts on who to buy, hold and sell in Gameweek 17.

We try to avoid a repeat of previous weeks. For example, Harry Wilson (ÂŁ5.6m) was a purchase and Nick Woltemade (ÂŁ7.4m) was a sale of our last piece so we won’t be covering them again.

RAYAN CHERKI

Rayan Cherki (ÂŁ6.5m) extended his good form on Sunday and provided the assist Phil Foden‘s (ÂŁ8.8m) strike at Selhurst Park.

The Frenchman has now produced all seven assists for the season in the last seven gameweeks since his return from injury.

And the underlying data further highlights his influence at Manchester City.

Cherki’s rate of 29 minutes per chance created in 2025/26 is among the best in the top flight.

He was also involved in 57% of his side’s goals when selected, again a team high.

There’s always a chance of rotation when it comes to Man City players, but Jeremy Doku (ÂŁ6.5 million) is excluded for “two to three weeks” and Omar Marmoush (ÂŁ8.3m) goes to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), so Cherki could be a risk worth taking.

Furthermore, City’s fixtures are well spread over the festive period, with attractive fixtures against West Ham United, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland.

  • Wed December 17: Brentford (h) – Carabao Cup
  • Sat December 20: West Ham (h) – Gameweek 17
  • Sat December 27: Nottingham Forest (a) – Gameweek 18
  • Autumn January 1: Sunderland (a) – Gameweek 19

So if you can stomach the rotation risk, buying Cherki feels like a solid move with real upside.

VERDICT: BUY

ENZO FERNANDEZ

FPL in 5 minutes: everything you need to know about Gameweek 8 3

There are only nine players this season who have had at least thirty shots and created at least twenty chances.

One of them is Enzo Fernandez (ÂŁ6.6m), yet the Argentine has failed to live up to expectations in Fantasy, failing to return in nine of his last ten games.

His conversion rate was particularly poor during that period: 7.1%.

Other factors, such as the absence of Moses Caicedo (ÂŁ5.7 million), have obviously played a role.

Despite this series of blanks, Enzo – who has been sold by over 91,000 managers this week – continues to find himself in dangerous positions in/around the sixteen, even with Cole Palmer (ÂŁ10.3m) back in the ’10’.

But while history suggests Enzo will eventually live up to his promising underlying metrics, he appears to be a buy-in for a number of reasons.

Firstly, Chelsea’s fixtures get worse in Gameweek 17 as they face Newcastle United (a), Aston Villa (h), Bournemouth (h) and Manchester City (a) in quick succession.

Enzo could also be replaced by someone like Antoine Semenyo (ÂŁ7.5 million), Matheus Cunha (ÂŁ7.9m), Cherki, or even cheaper, Harry Wilson (ÂŁ5.6m), all of which offer significant upside in the coming weeks.

VERDICT: SELL

HUGO EKITIKE

FPL notes: Why Alisson missed it, Ekitike + Trossard injury updates

Hugo Ekitike (ÂŁ8.6m) is FPL’s most in-demand forward.

The Frenchman has plundered 26 points in his last two games, thanks to four goals and six bonuses.

Furthermore, his shot frequency has increased dramatically during this period, with twelve shots in just 156 minutes of football:

Comfortably outperforming positional rival Alexander Isaac (ÂŁ10.3m) who continues to look at the pace, Fantasy managers have clearly taken note of Ekitike’s form ahead of this weekend’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lilywhites were beaten 3-0 by Nottingham Forest on Sunday, with their home situation poor throughout the 2025/26 season.

Looking further ahead, Liverpool play host to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leeds United and Burnley in Gameweeks 18-22.

Like Cherki, Ekitike isn’t completely nailed down to start every match, but he is with Mohammed Salah (ÂŁ14.0m) to AFCON and Cody Agat (ÂŁ7.5m) injured, plus some generous recovery time between games this month, he looks like a serious option for our front lines.

VERDICT: BUY

BLESS THE KING

FPL notes: Eze hat-trick, how Arsenal did without Gabriel + Romero ban 2

Game week 12 brought a hat trick for God bless you (ÂŁ7.8m), but the ex-Crystal Palace man has drawn a blank in all four of his subsequent games.

Alarmingly, he has not registered a single shot during this period.

He hasn’t created much either, with just two chances during that four-match spell.

There are other considerations to take into account.

The return of Martin Odegaard (ÂŁ7.8m) means Eze is no longer guaranteed minutes in central midfield. And with numerous options available for Mikel Arteta on the left, such as Leandro Trossard (ÂŁ6.9 million) and Gabriel Martinelli (ÂŁ6.8m), his minutes appear vulnerable.

While it may be difficult to dump Eze before he faces Everton (a) or Brighton and Hove Albion (h), the longer-term prospects for Arsenal are mixed.

And given the uncertainty of the minutes, it’s probably safe to continue Eze.

VERDICT: SELL

TREVOH CHALOBA

Trevo Chalobah (ÂŁ5.4m) has started every Premier League match he has been available for this season.

He has also found the net three times and made six defensive contribution points (DefCon), the most of any Chelsea player.

And with eight clean sheets to his name, it’s no surprise that Chalobah is the second highest scoring defender in the FPL.

But the games are not great for Chelsea over the next four matchweeks, especially from a defensive point of view.

Aston Villa and Man City are currently the two hottest attacks in the division.

As for Newcastle, they have found the net in every home game this season, while only Manchester City have scored more goals than Bournemouth.

Maybe this isn’t the best time to rush into buying Chalobah.

Instead, it might be best to prioritize other defenders before potentially making the move for the Chelsea man in Gameweek 21, when Enzo Maresca’s side embark on an excellent seven-match run (ful/BRE/cry/WHU/wol/LEE/BUR).

VERDICT: KEEP, BUT DO NOT RUSH TO BUY
