A Bundesliga insider has indicated a potential encouragement for Liverpool in their reported interest in a player of the German top flight.
In recent weeks, Christian Falk indicated that the Reds are ‘ready’ to go into the race to sign Dayot Upamecano, which is now in the last nine months of his current contract in Bayern Munich.
In the last 24 hours, Fabrizio Romano quoted quotes from the Allianz Arena-Hierarchy that they hope to find a successful solution for ‘current’ conversations about a potential new deal in Bavaria for the 26-year-old.
Liverpool remains interested in Upamecano in the midst of current contract discussions
In an update for CF Bayern Insider On Monday, Falk outlined that Liverpool remains interested in the French International, whose wish for a large signature fee if he is a new contract in Munich, the club is still being passed.
The Bundesliga expert said: “The conversations about a new contract for Dayot Upamecano and Bayern are still underway, so there is no agreement yet. It is not a problem about the basic salary; it is a problem about the signing costs.
“Alphonso Davies received around € 20 million [£17.4m] From a signing costs when he signed a new contract in Bayern Munich. Upamecano and his agents know that, so they also want a high signing costs, but Bayern does not want to pay for it at the moment.
“There are currently many interested clubs for Upamecano because he is a free agent in the summer.
The door remains open for Liverpool to jump …
Liverpool and Bayern are both in a creepy similar situation, namely that they have a 26-year-old French center-back in the last year of his contract and, at the moment, a resolution that is not imminent.
It is not incomprehensible that Upamecano could come to Anfield as a straight replacement for Ibrahima Konate next summer, although Arne Slot will be desperate not to lose our current number 5, despite his much critical start of this season.
The 6 Feet 2 Defender is highly regarded by Bayern’s sports director Christoph Freund, who stated earlier this year that the Frenchman ‘became a leader’ in the line-up of Vincent Kompany (Bundesliga.com), And to sign a center back for free in what his peak football years should be, it seems to be a beautiful coup when the Reds manage it.
If Upamecano and the Munich-Halarchy cannot solve inequality about the future registration, the door can remain open for Liverpool to make their movement in 2026, although Falk has indicated an optimism in the Allianz Arena that the 26-year-old will extend his stay with the German champions.
It is a situation that LFC fans will certainly look closely in the coming weeks and months, while at the same time they hope that a solution for the future of Konate can be found.
