After a demoralizing three-game Sweep in Seattle, the rays never shifts to Sacramento for a series against athletics, but I wanted to approach this series with at least a sprinkling of optimism, and the performance of the team in Game One made that a lot easier.
In one of the most complete team performance of the season, the Rays defeated the A’s 7-4. Eight out of nine batters in the starting line -up recorded a hit, Ryan Pepiot worked in the seventh and the Rays Top Three Relievers kept the As off the board for the last 2.2 innings.
Although their play -off disadvantage graph looks like a price card of the share of the Beren Sterns in 2008, it is time to find a number of silver carrys in the remaining games on the schedule. Before the start of the game, the rays for the options were from Tristan Peters to Aaa Durham and shouted right -handed to get outfielder Everton Pereira in his place. Pereira hit the fifth and got the start in midfield before Monday’s game, his first performance in a line -up of the big league since October 2023.
Pereira was part of the deadline deal that sent José Caballero to the Yankees and joined the rays next to a player who was later called. Despite strong Minor League figures, he never squatted the busy outfield of New York.
Old friend Jeffrey Springs took the hill for the A’s Series Opener on Monday, and the rays had no problems getting hits against the Lefty. Springs did not get it out of the fourth and gave up a home run for the wrestling Christopher Morel. He finished with four earned points on his count.
In the seventh, Brandon Lowe and Junior Caminero went back-to-back from Osvaldo Bido to stretch the lead to 6-1. Lowe and Caminero have combined 56 home runs this year, with Caminero’s 33’s franchise record by Carlos Peña of 46 within reach.
Pereira has broken off two hits, including a dichotomy of the second inning. It’s just one game, but the rays take every attacking spark they can get from their outfielders. He should be the complementary bat that should be morel.
Ryan Pepiot ended the night with four points earned after a two-run shot from Tyler Soderstrom pursued him from the game in the seventh inning. With his pitch at the age of 85, it seemed that Pepiot could get the eighth inning if the pipe remained comfortable. Griffin Jax ended the seventh, Edwin Uceta got the eighth and Pete Fairbanks took his 20th Save of the season to close it. He now has three consecutive seasons with at least 20 Saves.
This victory strengthened my beliefs about what this Rays team could Be even if it doesn’t blossom in 2025. By keeping this core together at the deadline, I think they might be declining again next year, and Rays -fans should not be against that. This team is built to win, they just have to start.
