Buc-Ee’s is bringing beaver nuggets, briskets and buckets of beaver-themed baubles to seven new states by next year – Jalopnik

Represented by the country’s most recognizable beaver, Buc-ee’s has taken the internet by storm, and now seven new states will host new locations of the viral gas station on steroids. Before this announcement, Buc-ee’s was limited to southeastern states and a few Midwestern states, but the enterprising rodent will work its way north and west into Arizona and Ohio by the end of this year, and into Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, North Carolina and Wisconsin by 2027. Tennessee and Texas, two states already infiltrated by The Buc, will allow him to expand his territorial claims and also gain an additional new location each following year.

If you’re not familiar with the lore, I recommend reading Brad Brownell’s quirky take on the chain’s appeal, but I’ll also provide a brief explanation. When you’re in Buc-ee territory, you pledge allegiance to clean toilets, freshly made barbecue and all things beaver. If you’re around my age or older, you probably remember when fast food chains would send out minimum wage workers in funny, furry costumes like clowns or obscure anthropomorphic purple pear-shaped creatures to get the attention of screaming children. Buc-ee’s has done the same with the beaver, plastering his face on every item imaginable, from hats to pajamas to pool swimsuits, and giving the travel center a cult following.

It’s hard to make an impression in the world of travel centers, but Buc-ee’s has done just that. Its success can be attributed to the superlatives, such as the location in Luling, Texas, which is home to the largest supermarket in the world at 75,593 square meters, while the world’s largest car wash with a 75 meter conveyor belt is located in Katy, Texas. Buc-ee’s website also says it will open locations in Oak Grove, Kentucky; St. Lucie, Florida; and Boerne, Texas, but these locations were not confirmed by the spokesperson.

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Buc-ee’s before, so I’m happy to see one opening in Arizona, which will likely be a popular six-hour road trip for fellow Angelenos looking for a chance to pay their respects to the beloved semi-aquatic, barbecue-obsessed rodent. The beaver beckons.
