Alexander Bublik joined Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev as the only men on all three surfaces on all three surfaces on tour level on the Lynk & Co Hangzhou, where he defeated the Chinese wild card, 6-3, 6-3.
Bublik won titles on Clay in Gstaad and Kitzbuhel in July and conquered a crown on grass in Halle in June. Now at the ATP 250 Hard-Court event in Hangzhou, the third seed has looked impressively. In a dominant version against Wu, Bublik fired 19 Aces past the home favorite to reach the champion match after 61 minutes.
“I expected a tough fight. He was clearly a bit tired of yesterday. It is never easy to play anyone from a specific region at home,” said Bublik. “I am glad I stayed strong and didn’t give him many opportunities.”
Wu made Daniil Medvedev Van Streek in the quarterfinals in Hangzhou, but had trouble entering the big match of Bublik in the first Lexus ATP Head2head meeting of the couple. Bublik is 30-17 in the season and is on track for a career-best season, after he has achieved an earlier 35 victories in 2021, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss index. Bublik is looking for his third title in his last four tournaments, with his only defeat in this run that opposite the then no. 1 Jannik Sinner in the fourth round in the US Open.
Bublik is three places up to 12th in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin and will try to greatly end the season in an attempt to be eligible for the Nitto ATP final for the first time. He will meet the French qualification Valentin Royer on Tuesday in the championship competition.
Royer continued his breakthrough week with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph against fellow countryman Corentin Moutet. The 24-year-old competed in his first semifinal at tour level and is the fourth qualification that an ATP tour reached this year.
Royer hit 15 winners and committed 13 casual mistakes against maltet and dealt with the Court Craft of the Lefty to seal the victory in the first Lexus ATP Head2head meeting of the couple. Royer is 13 places higher at no. 75 in the PIF ATP Live ranking and a career-high will rise on Wednesday.
