According to RG’s James Murphy, the Boston Bruins are reportedly among several teams showing interest in Buffalo Sabers forward Alex Tuch. Sources told Murphy that the Sabers are starting to listen (although their preference is still to re-sign him) to offers for Tuch, with the Bruins and Edmonton Oilers inquiring among the clubs, along with a few others.
Murphy writes that two NHL sources told him the Sabers are taking calls, and one source mentioned the Bruins as a team that kicked tiRes.
“Buffalo listens to Alex Tuch,” Murphy’s source said. “As far as I know, the Bruins and Oilers have made inquiries, along with a few other teams.”
If this source is correct, no one should be surprised. Boston clearly needs a top-six winger, especially on the right side of the second line. They currently have Viktor Arvidsson in the second-line role.
Acquiring Tuch would be a huge addition, and he could be more than just a rental to the Bruins. The Bruins are reportedly looking for around $10 to $11 million on a new deal, but could be open to spending that kind of money.
Ahead of the 2024 trade deadline, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said the Bruins, along with the New York Rangers, were among the teams showing interest in Tuch. Obviously nothing came of it. Still, their interest then and continued interest makes sense considering the 6-foot-4 forward recorded 36 goals and 31 assists for 67 points in 82 games during the 2024-2025 season. He has four points in six games for the Sabers this season.
Tuch isn’t a flash-in-the-pan player either. In 2022-2023 he was close to a point per game. Any team that acquires him knows what they are getting. He also performed well for the Vegas Golden Knights during their playoffs, which is why the Sabers insisted he be part of the Jack Eichel trade package.
Currently in the final year of his $4.75 million cap hit contract, Tuch will become an unrestricted free agent, and several teams will show interest if the Sabers start making him more available in trade talks.
With Boston actively looking for upgrades, being listed as a potential buyer means they are a team to keep an eye on.
