College Basketball has been struck with a huge coaching pension decision for a second consecutive preseason. Bruce Pearl van Auburn leaves the profession, sources told CBS Sports on Monday. The news comes less than a year after Tony Bennett left Virginia shocking in October 2024.
After a low season to consider whether or not he retired, Pearl came to terms with his decision and made it final on Monday morning, says sources. He is Also linked to a potential run in Alabama in recent monthsBut sources had troubled the chance that Pearl would be in politics this year.
Auburn released a video of Pearl in which he announced his decision to resign.
The 65-year-old Pearl has been a head coach who goes back to 1992, when he first had a chance with a program in Division II Southern Indiana, where he won a National Championship II in 1995. Pearl then coached from 2001-05 in Milwaukee, in Tennessee from 2005-11 and since 2014, Auburn led under the largest run in school history. Pearl leaves on a high note, after he has taken the Tigers to the last four with a number 1 seed last season. He also took Auburn to the first Final Four in 2019.

Pearl’s path to Auburn was clouded in controversy. He received a three-year show cause of the NCAA in 2011 when his unprecedented series of success came to an end at Tennessee after an investigation discovered that he was lying against NCAA researchers about the inadmissible contact of the program with prospects.
