Brooks Raley has added a strong Lefty presence to the bullpen of the Mets since the return of the injured list in July, but the veteran-reliever had his first rocky outing of the season in the loss of 11-9 from Friday to the Mariners.
After 10 consecutive scoreless performances after his activation of the IL in the aftermath of Tommy John Surgery, Raley was accused of three earned points after he had a hereditary runner from Ryan Helsley scored in the five-run seventh inning of the Mariners.
“Boys work hard, there is no doubt about that. We all want the ball with the game on the line,” said Raley. “Just don’t really perform and have to make better pitches. Everything is enlarged in the type of piece in which we find ourselves.”
Helsley gave up a 6-5 lead to start the inning and was replaced by Raley, who was boosted by the home crowd when he left the hill after giving up RBI hits to Dominic Canzone and Donovan Solano and a two-run double to Cole Young for a 10-6 game.
“I thought I executed reasonably well. I got a ground ball from the first man who just didn’t find a glove and then made some good fields, but a man walked, a ball from the wall in the middle of it,” Raley said.
Francisco Lindor seems to be at least because of his recent malaise with two home runs from Seattle-Starter Luis Castillo under a 3-out-5 night with four RBIs after also having gone deep Thursday evening against Atlanta.
“Perform. It comes down to implementation,” said Lindor, who has eight hits in his last 10 games. “I recently said … The whole battle department spoke to me, and [Carlos] Mendoza, who just helps me and tries to push me to get better and implement.
“That is what it happened, just get and implement the fields.”
Lindor’s opposite field shot to open the first, marked his seventh Leadoff Homer of the Year, as a result of which the franchise record was set by Curtis Grandonon in both 2015 and 2016.
The Mets held a pregame concert of a tribute band in honor of the 60th anniversary of the Beatles’ from 1965 in Shea Stadium. They also used Photoshopped Pics from their current players dressed in the 60s era Beatles Garb and Hairstyles on the scoreboard during the game.
