Brooks Hyperion Max 3 Review | Divided spirits on this super trainer

Brooks has made some updates for the Hyperion Max 3, but the changes actually make it a better Max Cushioned Super Trainer, or have they missed the goal? I have imposed the kilometers on the treadmill and on the roads to find out.
If you have performed in earlier versions of the Hyperion Max, you will see the differences immediately. But appearance can only tell you like that. What really matters is how the shoe fits, feels and performs when the kilometers begin to add up.

Originally launched in 2023 as a lightweight shoe, the Hyperion Max has now won both weight and stacking height to lean completely in the Max Cushion category. So what does that mean for how the shoe will perform?

Let’s immediately in the Brooks Hyperion Max 3 Review to find out.

Who is the Brooks Hyperion Max 3 A good fit for? Let’s split it with some common categories:

  • Wide feet: It is a cozy fit and the mesh is not super flexible.
  • Heavier runners: The RoadTack rubber Outsool does not seem to be super sustainable after a few points.
  • Long runs: Not ideal for easy steps, but perfect for picking up the pace during your long -term training.
  • Front of the package: This will be great for speed training, both on the track and as part of long runs.

Brooks Hyperion Max 3 Overview

Open the box of the Brooks Hyperion Max 3And boom, you are immediately touched with bright colors and a sleek design. I know, bright colors are not everyone’s cup of tea, but it made me super enthusiastic to test this shoe.

The Hyperion Max has been a bit of a hit-of-miss over the years and unfortunately this model follows the same trend. Although Brooks has made some changes that seem promising on paper, this is a heavier super trainer from Max-Cushion who does not work for every runner.

This model is so different from the first two that it calls an “update” does not feel completely accurate. It is actually a whole new shoe. Whether that is good or not, depends on what you are looking for.Brooks Hyperion Max 3 ReviewOne of the biggest updates in the Hyperion Max 3 Is what is under the foot.

Brooks wanted this shoe to feel quickly, so they exchanged the middle sole for something completely new.

DNA -Gold is so far their lightest, softest and sparkling foam. It is made of 100% Peba and it is part of the big change in both the stack height (extra 10 mm !!) and the total weight.

The Hyperion Max 3 now combines DNA Gold, DNA Flash V2 and a Speedvault plate, all designed to provide a mix of protection, propulsion and recovery. Sounds promising, right?

Well, unfortunately I hate to report that my painful feet and tired legs seem to disagree about the recovery area.

On runs for more than 6 miles, I noticed that I was dealing with some discomfort. My feet were painful, my legs felt heavy for the rest of the day, and for the first time I saw arc pain in my right foot. That is not something that I have experienced before, and I have worn many gilded super trainers.

I still try to find out what exactly was caused, but it makes me second gamble to reach it again.

To finish it, I developed a hotspot under one of my big toes towards the end of a run. By the time I was ready, I couldn’t wait to tear these shoes.

It was a disappointment because when I picked up the pace, the shoes felt tough and responsive. There is certainly a potential here, but the inconvenience made it difficult to fully enjoy what the Hyperion Max 3 could be.

Coach Amanda: We said we were divided and here it starts. I loved the update of this shoe from the previous model, which just felt way too firmly. It didn’t give the jump that I expect from a super shoe, but this model absolutely does it.

It’s not their fastest shoe the Hyperion Elite I rated that before, but it is a damn good super trainer.
I was able to run comfortably 7:30 Paces and did not respond to fit problems.
Brooks Hyperion Max 3 Speedvault plateAt first glance, the Brooks Hyperion Max 3 and the Hoka Sky X1 2.0 Look incredibly comparable. But once you cut them, the ride is completely different. A large part of it comes down to how each brand deals with the midsole.

In the Hoka Sky X1 2.0, The cut out separates a part of the heel, so this is not a great shoe if you are a heel striker. With the Hyperion max 3 the cut is there, but it is small and does not cut the heel. You don’t feel it at all while running or walking around in the Hyperion max 3.

Amanda ran in both Sky X1 2.0 And the Hyperion max 3 to help compare. She shared that the Cielo becomes your front-of-the-pack racing shoe, and although the Hyperion max 3 is a fast shoe, the lake of your super trainer becomes. When you set up the Cielo X1 2.0, there is less stability because of the way in which the recess separates part of the heel.

Although I did not have the best experience after a few longer runs in the Brooks Hyperion max 3, this checks the boxes needed for a super trainer.

You are going to get that snappiness and flexible turnover that you need when collecting the pace during a training training or pace run.

Brooks Hyperion Max 3 specifications

I would not recommend this for an easy long term. But if you throw some marathon pace -mijlen or even pace in the long term, absolutely!

  • Weight: 8.8 oz ladies, 9.9 oz gentlemen
  • Alcoholic: 6 mm
  • Stacking height: 46 mm
  • Usage: Super trainer
  • Available in 2 colors
  • Not available in Wijd
  • Available at Brooksrunning.com for $ 200

Fast

Pros

  • A fits in and securely enclosed so that your foot does not slip around.
  • The combination of the Speedvault plate and Rapidroll Rocker will help transitions to feel super smooth during training sessions.
  • Even with the higher stacking height you do not endanger compromising stability.
Disadvantage

  • It is a heavier shoe compared to other available super trainers.
  • The upper is made of a material that is not super flexible.
  • The fit is cozy and unfortunately there is currently no broad option available.

Are they worth the costs? Uh, I would not pay the price. They fall under the Super Trainer category, that’s why they are a little more expensive than a daily trainer, because of the Speedvault plate.

Brooks Hyperion Max 3 Feel

If you hear Max Cushion, you probably expect something soft and pillow -like under the foot, right?

That’s not quite what you get with the Brooks Hyperion Max 3. If there is something, it feels like Brooks the damping of the Ghost Max And Glycerine Max” Mixed them together and threw in a speedvault plate for an extra doll.

You get a bit bouncing thanks to the combination of DNA Gold and DNA Flash V2, but the general feeling is firmer than plush. So if you expect that zinc in softness, it can overwhelm you.Brooks Hyperion Max 3 FeelI tested the Brooks Hyperion max 3 on a few different training sessions, and despite my feedback on my feet that felt painful, it really shines when you pick up the pace.

There is a small recess that reveals the speedvault plate, and it is formed with a curved geometry to smooth out that transition from the heel-to-toe.

During my speed training, every step felt flexible and I felt the Rapidroll -Rocker doing its work. Even if someone who naturally walks more on my toes, I appreciated how the shoe led my pass forward without feeling forced me.Brooks Hyperion Max 3 PlateThe outsole of the shoe looks super crispy and blue out of the box. But I have to say that I have already noticed the wear, and I might have had these shoes for a month?

That is a bit worried about the sustainability of the new Roadtack Lightweight Rubber Outsool. Brooks says that this shoe is built for long runs, but if the outsole wears out too quickly, will it be in one of those shoes that you only pull out occasionally?

At the moment I’m not sure. The jury is still out.

Brooks Hyperion Max 3 Fit

The overall fit of the Brooks Hyperion max 3 is true. I was wearing the size 11 of my typical women and did not feel that I needed an extra room.

The Brooks Hyperion Max 3 Fit is like a hug for your feet, cozy but safe. It is a breathable mesh, although not the most flexible, which is probably what it gives that locked fit.

I really thought it could make this a little doubtful for hot summer runs, but I was pleasantly surprised. Even with Temps approaching triple figures, my feet never felt overheated or sweaty. That is a victory in my book!
Brooks Hyperion max 3 meshOne of the noticeable updates in the Brooks Hyperion Max 3 is the new sock -like lining, full of damping and a noticeable plush tongue and heel collar.

The extra filling in the heel collar did not bother me or caused irritation. This can bring your foot a little forward, but as I said, I felt that there was enough room with the size 11 of my women.

If you are someone who is not doing well with a stiff or muffled heel collar, you may not think of the Fit of the Hyperion max 3. This is really a time when you have to try it yourself.

This is also not the type of shoe that you can hold and slide back later. The cozy sock lining and the stiff heel counter make that difficult.

Fortunately there is a pull -tab to help, and once you get inside, the fit feels super safe. No heel slides, not shifting, only a solid, locked fit.Brooks Hyperion max 3 whole collarThe extra filling in the tongue took some getting used to, especially because it tends to catch itself when sharpening the laces. But after a quick adjustment the flat was on the top of my foot.

Around the last eye there are small recesses that might wonder if you could sneak into small rocks. But thanks to the well -fitting fit, I had no problems with Stowaways during my runs.

The laces are a bit short. If you are someone who likes to change your lace for a more custom fit, it can be a bit restrictive.

Brooks Hyperion Line Up

If you wonder what the deal is with this line -up, let’s look. The whole line has been developed with the idea of making lighter shoes from the upper to the foam they used.

Hopefully they offer a variety of pillow and speed levels for the different needs of training and racing. The entire Line -Up shares many similarities, but here are some ways to distinguish:

  • Brooks Hyperion 2 – Lessest pillow, more road feeling, lightest weight
  • Brooks Hyperion Max 3 -Speedvault plate, slightly more damped super trainer, more rocker feeling
  • Brooks Hyperion GTS 2 – Stability model, which may feel a bit firmer and is not Max Cushion
  • Brooks Hyperion Elite 4 – Fastest option with carbon plate, a little more rocker, middle weight of the options

Although our review of the Brooks Hyperion Max 3 was not a total thumb up, we hope you are still trying.

78%

The fit of this shoe and our distributed pleasure is the occurrence of a higher score. Although it performs great for faster efforts, it is good fitting and firmer feeling is not everyone’s cup of tea.
