Broad Arrow Las Vegas 2025 Preview: 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition

3 minutes, 44 seconds Read

At 7:22 a.m. on May 1, 1955, Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson launched their Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR from Brescia for the Mille Miglia, the grueling 1,000-mile race through Italy. Ten hours, 7 minutes and 48 seconds later they crossed the finish line at an average speed of 93mph – a feat that remains the fastest run in the event’s history. Their car bore the number ‘722’, a simple departure that would become one of the most evocative symbols in the history of Mercedes-Benz.

More than fifty years later, on September 28, 2006, Mercedes-Benz and McLaren revived the legend at the Paris Motor Show with the debut of the SLR McLaren 722 Edition. Limited to just 150 hand-built examples, each manufactured at McLaren’s Woking factory, the car combined the expertise of Formula 1 with the high-performance engineering of AMG to create a modern tribute to Moss’ immortal drive.

Broad Arrow Auctions is proud to offer an exceptional example of the 722 Edition at the Las Vegas Auction, held at the iconic Wynn Las Vegas in conjunction with the prestigious Concours at Wynn Las Vegas.

Under the long carbon fiber hood sat a hand-assembled, supercharged 5.4-liter V8 that produced 641 horsepower and 605 lb-ft of torque. The performance was ferocious. From a standstill to 100 km/h takes just 3.6 seconds, while it accelerates to a top speed of 330 km/h. Faster shift programming, stiffer springs, revised dampers, lightweight forged 19-inch wheels and massive 15.4-inch carbon ceramic brakes with red calipers enhanced the driving experience with sharper turn-in, greater stopping power and increased precision.

Aerodynamics and weight savings completed the transformation. A deeper front splitter, a functional diffuser and a deployable air brake improved high-speed stability, while the carbon fiber body shaved nearly 97 pounds from the curb weight. Inside, dark finishes, embroidered ‘722’ badges and sports seats underlined the exclusivity and racing inspiration.

The line was expanded in 2007 with the SLR Roadster, whose carbon fiber monocoque maintained strength and safety despite the absence of a roof. The soft top could be raised or lowered in less than ten seconds and retained its refinement even beyond 200 km/h. In 2008, the SLR McLaren 722 S Roadster pushed the concept further: an open-air supercar with an output of 641 hp, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and reaching a speed of 330 km/h. With a sharpened suspension, aerodynamic finesse and styling cues worthy of its heritage, the ‘722’ name was ushered into a new era of uncompromising performance.

Of the 150 722 S Roadsters produced, this example is one of the few sold new in Canada. The interior, finished in Crystal Galaxit Black Metallic, was specified with black leather and Alcantara, contrasted with red stitching, seat belts and bindings on the floor mats. The largest body contoured seat options, including the “XXL” driver seat and oversized passenger seat, were specified for added comfort and convenience. Additional equipment for this Roadster includes an anthracite electrically folding soft top, dual-zone automatic climate control, a six-disc CD changer with a Bose sound system and 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels.

The accompanying clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report shows that the car remained with Canadian owners until it was imported into the US on November 27, 2024 and “declared to meet US highway safety specifications.” Before the import, in November 2021, the car received a major service at Mercedes-Benz Boundary of Vancouver, British Columbia, including a brake fluid flush and replacement of the hood supports, engine oil, spark plugs and serpentine belt. at 7,915 kilometers.

To be offered at Broad Arrow’s first Las Vegas auction on October 31, 2025, this beautiful example of the SLR Roadster 722 S was purchased by its current owner in January 2025 and has remained in excellent condition ever since. With only 5,290 miles recorded at the time of cataloguing, this reflects minimal use and careful management. The Roadster 722 S marked the pinnacle of the SLR program, combining the technical precision of McLaren with the luxury and innovation of Mercedes-Benz. Its distinctive styling, motorsport-derived performance and limited production have made it one of the most sought-after modern supercars. Presented in an exceptional color scheme and with a remarkably low mileage, this example offers a rare opportunity to acquire a car that captures the essence of exclusivity, performance and design.
