British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said former Prince Andrew should testify before a US congressional committee, following new revelations about Andrew’s ties to the late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
New files related to Epstein published by the US Department of Justice on Friday include emails showing that King Charles’ brother maintained regular contact with Epstein for more than two years after he was found guilty of child sex crimes.
The files also contain photos of Andrew crouching down and touching the waist of an unknown woman lying on the ground. Her face was black in the edited images.
The king stripped his brother of the title of prince and evicted him from his country home in the grounds of Windsor Castle in November. following earlier revelations about his ties to Epstein.
Andrew denied maintaining the friendship after Epstein’s conviction
The former prince, 65, now uses the surname Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. He has denied wrongdoing in connection with Epstein and had previously denied having ties to the financier after Epstein’s conviction in 2008, apart from visiting New York in 2010 to end their relationship.
He did not respond to a request for comment on the latest revelations. Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
Starmer, speaking to reporters on the plane to Japan after a four-day visit to China on Saturday, said the former prince should appear before US politicians to explain everything he knows about Epstein to help Epstein’s victims.
“Anyone who has information should be prepared to share that information in any form,” Starmer said. “You can’t be victim-centered if you’re not willing to be.”
In November, members of a US congressional committee investigating the Epstein case intensified their calls for Andrew to answer questions.
Epstein died by suicide in a Manhattan jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. He was convicted in 2008 of soliciting paid sex from a minor.
The records show that Andrew maintained regular contact with Epstein after his conviction, including discussing potential business deals and social gatherings.
In several emails, Epstein and Andrew discuss women the financier proposes to put in touch with the prince. In one email, Epstein offered to take three women to Buckingham Palace.
