The perfect result to start a huge week for Newcastle United, while Eddie How’s Mags delivered a dominant display and our biggest victory of the Champions League-actual owner to see the Belgian Side Union SG in a certain style.
Our first victory away from home in Europe since we sent metalist Kharkiv during the 2012/13 campaign, and it was thoroughly earned because the excellent Nick Wolade opened the score for an Anthony Gordon Brace and Late strike of Harvey Barnes achieved an emphatic 4-0 win.
We checked the game, looked much sharper in attacks and occasionally played a nice football, with real hunger and desire to make a statement and to silence the doubters after a difficult start to the season so far.
Eddie Howe made two changes from Sunday and saw Kieran Trippier and Anthony Elanga come in for Tino Livramento and Jacob Murphy, with then burn on the left in a 4-3-3.
Newcastle XI: Pope – Trippier, Thiaw, Botman, Burn – Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton – Elanga, Woltemade, Gordon
Subs: Ramsdale, Thompson, Hall, Schar, Barnes, Krafth, Osula, J. Murphy, Willock, A.Murphy, Miley
It was a steady start, where we had most of the ball without creating large openings. The home team really had trouble keeping possession, but Newcastle only collected one shot in the first 15 minutes despite the fact that he enjoyed 72% of the piece.
A series of corners came on our side and Union SG SG Stopper Scherpen fluttered to a few of them, although the delivery of Tonali was bad, often hit the first man and the home team could free up.
However, the Italian soon stood in the heart of the action, while he bounced the blocked effort of Elanga and saw his shot flashing excellent through Nick Woltemade! 1-0 Newcastle, a third goal in four starts for our club record that our first road goal of the season signed after a strong opening 20 minutes.
Newcastle Lead by Sandro Tonali 🙌 🙌 🙌
It requires an unfortunate deflection, but they all count the same 💫 💫 💫 💫

After a short period of SG pressure from the Union and two solid stops from Pope, Tonali Trippier and the right back crossed to Joelinton, who again arrived well but brought a considerable opportunity, just wide in the process.
We grew in confidence and played some nice football, with the help of Woltemade as the center when the Big German produced a number of brilliant pieces of hold up play to feed a lively Elanga and Gordon, which were constant outlets wide.
That elanga sharpness then paid dividends when he first came to the ball in the box and pulled the mistake, Newcastle handed a penalty and Gordon the chance to bring the score to 2-0 before the break, which he did not walk! Our number 10 sent the Union SG stop in the wrong way to double our lead and its count for the season, with both strikes in the Champions League.
We made a fast start of the second half and it was Woltemade that was blinded to create the opening, with fast feet and tight dribbling to free himself between Union SG bodies before Elanga tested the goalkeeper with a shot from the right.
On the other hand, we survived a few fears, while a great chance flew wide after burning our left side and Niang Pope forced it to keep it 2-0 in another solid stop. We had to stay on because, despite our dominance, 2-0 is a funny old score and anything but game left.
Exactly at the point that the lead of two goals became three, because Gordons Kruis was assessed to have been handled after the protests of Woltemade. VAR advised a review, the referee had a look and it was given, when Gordon resigned and went home at home to make the score at 3-0.
Union SG picked up many yellow cards and our one man on a booking, Joelinton, was pulled out for Miley, so that our Geordie talent got a 30-minute run and our Brazilian an early bath before more changes followed. Woltemade, Elanga and Bruno all made a road after they had strong displays, where Osula, Barnes and Hall are all going on and seeing us shift to a 5-4-1 to see the game.
A quick counterattack and Harvey Barnes gives Newcastle their fourth goal of the evening 🔥

But, just when we saw to keep the store, Gordon started a counterattack in which Osula kept the ball up excellently and fed Barnes, who ended well before his first of the season after he crept through the big Dane, who put brilliant in the structure. 4-0!
Fabian Schar came up for the last 10 minutes and appeared for the first time since Barcelona when he replaced Trippier, allowing the Solid Thiaw to play right back in the final phase.
It was almost 5-0 in stopping time and what a goal it would have been, such as Hall and Barnes combined with a slick one-two before the saved to Tonali was saved, making the All-Action Italian a goal that deserved his display.
A big win after a brutal result on Sunday, a massive result in the context of our European campaign and the ideal self -confidence on the way to Sunday’s collision with Nottingham Forest in the competition.
How do you want the boys!
