Thomas Frank agreed that the West-London showdown on Sunday with Fulham is the “most important competition” of Brentford since their promotion from 2021 while keeping their eyes on European qualification. The bees in eighth place will have to keep their current Premier League position to make a shot.

They also need Manchester City to beat Crystal Palace in Saturday’s FA Cup final to qualify for the first time in their history for Europe. Frank’s men, who share 55 points with colleague opportunities Brighton, but for the goal difference, there are two before Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth while the race for the eighth place comes on the last two games.

“Since we have been promoted yes,” Frank said that the game was the biggest in Brentford since they came out of the championship.

“Of course there is simply more in this game. I would say that we want to finish the eighth and do it well and it doesn’t matter if it was against Fulham, Brighton, Liverpool, Leicester, it is important to concentrate on ourselves, our performance and not on the external sound.”

Sunday’s collision in Gtech Community Stadium comes at a good time for Brentford who has won four consecutive competitions – a record since their promotion of the second Tier four years ago.

Although he played at home, Frank, on his way, spoke to the road as the reason behind their success this season with the bees who won seven of their last nine on the road.

“It’s a good timing,” he added. “We have to keep it up, can we get five in a row?

“But it is more about the implementation. The road shape has been very good. In the last nine games we are the best way team in the Premier League, who won seven, drawing there and losing a loss in Newcastle.

“The team is synchronous, the balance between defensive and offensive is very good and we are a lot of confidence.”

The West-London rivement of Brentford and Fulham has been intensified in recent seasons with the Harry Wilson’s stop-time double of the Cottagers in November in a 2-1 win that only adds more to the occasion.

“It’s the last home game against Rivalen Fulham in a local derby, so everything is to play for,” said Frank.

“We can finish eighth, which would be the highest ever for us; it is a fantastic target and so everything is on.

“In general, they (Fulham) did well. In the past three years they have built up consistency in the Premier League, Marco Silva and his team have added layers and they have a team and a team that is extremely competitive.”
