Brennan Othmann leaving Broadway?

Vincent C. Mercogliano of The Athletic: Yes, Brennan Othmann has come up in trade rumors. The New York Rangers 2021 first-round pick was assigned to Hartford a full week before training camp ended. Four preseason games showed little, as Othmann scored one goal. That’s it! A trade seems likely, given that things aren’t working out for Othmann in New York.

There’s nothing wrong with a fresh start and the reality is that the Rangers are receptive to a move here. Brett Beard and Gabe Perreault have taken over Othmann in the organizational hierarchy. The latter two are likely a call-up for New York if injuries occur.

NHL Rumors: Some Players Will Wait Until July 1st

Others see the signing of Conor Sheary as the organizational dagger for Othmann. There simply aren’t enough spots on the Rangers roster. With teams making inquiries, New York could make a move sooner rather than later.

Owen Tippett and Philadelphia

Kyle Morton of The Daily Faceoff: So Owen Tippett is another one of those names that has attracted interest from certain NHL teams. No one wants to be the first to make a trade this early in the season. However, Tippett’s name has come up more and more and the chances of a trade before the American Thanksgiving are increasing. Does any transaction involve Tippett? It depends on who you ask.

Right now, teams are more interested in how Tippett is deployed. If he doesn’t get the minutes, they will call more often. Tippett has a long-term agreement that is friendly to the bottom line. This is a player who has scored 30 goals twice in his young career. Philadelphia also has Matvei Michkov, Bobby Brink, Tyson Forrester and Travis Konecny. Philadelphia has several areas to improve.

Could a transaction make sense? Yes. Is there something threatening? Certainly not!

Sharks fishing for young defenders

David Pagnotta from the fourth period: It’s no secret that the San Jose Sharks have a lot of young talent. The defense has sufficient players with expiring contracts. Yes, that means the search for younger defenders has begun. Nick Leddy, Marco Ferraro, John Klingberg, Vincent Desharnais and Timothy Lilejegren are highly potential trade deadline targets.

With a young goalkeeper and young attackers, this is the next logical step. The problem may be that this is because other teams know this.

NHL rumors: sharks, oilmen and more

There are many options up for grabs here. Several of these players haven’t requested a trade but know what’s next. Their time is dwindling in San Jose. Movements are inevitable. Since last season, those rumors have only gotten louder.

At some point the first domino will fall, and then other dominoes will fall as well.
