Breakout star and former Oiler suggests that the team pushed him out

The move from Dylan Holloway to the St. Louis Blues Last season proves how expensive the contract negotiations of Edmonton Oilers were. The attacker born in Alberta openly admitted that the feeling undervalued in Edmonton pushed him to St. Louis.

“It rubbed me on the wrong side how little Edmonton thought of me … I am an Alberta boy, I wanted to go back to a team that we went that far, but as soon as Edmonton did not answer that feeling, I was completely in St. Louis,” said Holloway.

The gamble immediately paid off. Holloway clicked with Jordan Kyrou and Captain Brayden Schenn and formed one of the most exciting lines of the NHL. He achieved 66 points in 77 games and was ready to be a game changer in the Playoff series of the Blues-Playoff against the Winnipeg Jets before a seasonal lower injury required surgery.

Holloway has now entered into the last year of his two -year -old deal and remains a limited free agent, but the blues are clear: he is a cornerstone for the future.

St. Louis sees him, together with fellow ex-oiler Philip BrobraR, as important pieces of their core, either by a bridge deal in the short term or a long-term expansion. In the meantime, the Oilers are trying to get Connor McDavid comfortably with the direction of the team in the coming seasons. Having Holloway (and perhaps BrobraR) on the Roster can influence the level of trust of McDavid.

Does Holloway write to criticize the oilers?

Fans are split online – a praise Holloway for taking control of his career, while others wonder if he saved a team in a team that was so close to winning that he could have stayed and gave himself a chance to give a better deal with the oilers.

One thing is certain: the oilers dropped the ball in their negotiations with Holloway, even if the CAP management strategy of Edmonton was about maintaining flexibility, which they wisely used during the 2024-25 season.

Eventually the oilers lost a talented young player and the blues received a handle from a deal. The Breakout season of Holloway proves that if one team is calculated incorrectly, another can pick the rewards – and St. Louis already applies. How they are going from here and whether Holloway remains appreciated in St. Louis.
