Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane has passed away.
He was 53 years old.
Eric Dane was known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan or “McSteamy.”
Last year Eric Dane revealed he was diagnosed with ALS – a disease that affects the nervous system and ultimately leads to loss of muscle control.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Eric Dane passed away on Thursday afternoon after a courageous battle against ALS,” the family statement said. Fox News read.
“He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world. During his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same struggles. He will be deeply missed and always remembered fondly. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he received. The family has requested privacy as they navigate this impossible time,” the statement said read.
Eric Dane was spotted in a wheelchair last year after his diagnosis.

The ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star announced in April 2025 that he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly referred to as ALS.
He explained that it had been an exhausting road just to get accurate answers. He bounced from one specialist to another, test after test… until a neurologist finally dropped the bomb: ALS.
Over the months, he chronicled his battle with the progressive neurodegenerative disease, revealing how he was left with only one functioning arm and no physical strength.
