Braves News: Hurston Waldrep, Drake Baldwin NL Roy, Meer

If this was still May, the news of the day might be the attack that exploded on both matches of the Doublehead, hopefully who represent the reversal on which we continue to wait, the season is almost dead. With their Playoff hop in the toilet and the eyes on next season there were two main stories that mattered today: 1. Hurston Waldrep’s second successful outing and 2. Drake Baldwin’s Hot Streak, who stimulated his high-stakes NL Rookie of the year.

Waldrrep had a solid place in the mess that was the Speedway classic last weekend and earned himself a start today. He was even more impressive today, and threw 6 Marlins out with 12 Whiffs more than 6.0 innings, with only 1 walk and no gayers allowed for a run outing. If his dominant splitter had not been, Waldrrep would be completely unrecognizable from the pitcher he was last year, with new mechanics and a dramatically different pitch mix, mixing new sinkers and cutters and turning his curveball and slider use. That said, it works so far and the order was much better, which was the critical problem for the former first rounder. Regardless of where things go from here, Hurston earns a lot of credit for evolving as much as a pitcher in such a short time. If he can settle as a real Major League starter for the remaining two months, that would be a huge development for Atlanta, especially with AJ Smith-Shawver and Grant Holmes probably not available for next season.

Baldwin today collected another 5 RBIs (so far 10 in the series) and on the day with 4-9. All his hits were singles, but he hit the ball hard and it was a productive day before the Rookie catcher. Given the commitment to Drake Personal and for the franchise with a first round pick at stake, Drake’s version is the number one that I watch the rest of the season.

De Braves made a flurry of grid movements to start the day, with the headliner that Waldrep was recalled, instead of brought in as the extra player for the Doublehead, indicating that he gets the chance to make multiple starts, especially after Saturday’s success.
