Apart from Gwinnett, it was an all-round great day for Atlanta’s Minor League branches, when the attack by Augusta and Columbus broke out, while Rome lost a tight, but still had some striking artists on the day. Let’s all dive into it.
(47-68) Gwinnett Stripers 2, (51-65) Louisville Bats 14
- Luke Waddell, 2B: 2-3, 2B, RBI
- Jesus supports. 3B: 1-3, 2B, R
- Davis Daniel, SP: 2.1 IP, 10 H, 9 ER, 2 K
As the score suggests, this was a terrible game for Gwinnett. The stripers only achieved two points on four hits, while Louisville stuck a 14-run outing together after shooting starter Davis Daniel, whom we will reach in an instant.
Offensive, Luke Waddell and Jesus Bastidas really had the only games that were worth writing at home in this, because both boys brought a double to their name, while Waddell rode in a run and Bastidas scored one of the two points of Gwinnett on the day.
As far as Daniel is concerned, it’s hard to imagine a rougher start. In general, he only lasted 2.1 innings, while Louisville hit him, with nine points on 10 hits, while he only managed to hit a few batters. If there was a positive memorandum for Daniel – and that is a big “like” – it is that he didn’t walk anyone in this.
(46-61) Columbus Clingstones 9, (60-50) Biloxi Shuckers. 4
- David McCabe, DH: 3-4, 2 hours, 2B, 7 RBI, 2 R, BB
- Jim Jarvis, 3B: 2-5, 2B, RBI, 2 R
- Anderson Espinoza, SS: 1-5, 2B, 3 R
- Brian Moran, SP: 4.1 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 2 BB
It would hardly be under pressure to find a better offensive performance in the small competitions on Wednesday than that of David McCabe. Of the nine total runs that cross the plate for Columbus, McCabe was responsible for driving in no fewer than seven of them. Moreover, McCabe launched a few home runs and a two -squeeze to his name, so that his best game of the season so far has been compiled in the process.
McCabe has been one of the most popular batters in the past week, not only in the Atlanta system, but all Minor League baseball. During his last five games, McCabe added four home runs to join 13 RBI while he raised his season points to .805. What makes McCaBe’s so encouraging on Wednesday, was his plate discipline while also launching a few homers. In those respective barriers, McCabe succeeded in working a full count and forced Biloxis pitchers to throw at least seven fields in every start.
While McCabe, understandably, took the majority of the spotlight, other household stones also brought respectable performances on Wednesday evening. Jim Jarvis went 2-5 with a double and an RBI to go with a few points scored, while Anderson Espinoza-Die 1-5 went with a double-erin managed to explain three of the total score of Columbus.
Brian Moran got the start on the hill and although he was not exactly great, his attack was able to pick up the rest of the play. In 4.1 Innings work, Moran transferred five points to six hits while walking a few batters and did not take anyone.
Regarding a positive pitching note, the Columbus Bullpen came through to keep the lead, while Rolddy Munoz – 2.2 innings and three strikeouts – and Amos Willingham – two innings and four strikeouts – combined to close Biloxi after Moran took place and the Cingstones overlining.
(44-63)) Rome Emperors 4, (58-49) Bowling Green Hot Rods 6
- Logan Braunschweig, LF: 1-4, 2 RBI, R
- Colby Jones, 3B: 2-4, RBI
- Luke Sinnard, SP: 5 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
On Wednesday it seemed that it would go the way of Rome. Bound on 1-1, the emperors broke out for three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.
The biggest plays of the inning came to a Logan Braunschweig -Single that resulted in Isaiah Drake and Mason Guerra scoring while Braunschweig became second for an error. In the next battle, after Braunschweig finished third on a wild pitch, he came across to score thanks to an Ambioris Tavarez RBI-Single in the left field to expand the Rome lead.
In the meantime, Luke Sinnard got the start on the hill and although he wasn’t great, he wasn’t exactly bad either. In five innings work, the 6’8 justice handed four hits and allowed four runs while she hit four in the night.
Although it was only two starts, August was not nice for Sinnard. In nine total innovation work, Sinnard is tagged for seven runs on 10 hits while beating seven batters. He also spent five walks during that period, which is a stark contrast to his outings in July in which he did not give up any free pass in his two starts last month.
Returning to Wednesday’s action, the Keizers struggled after their fourth inning outburst. In fact, the only other time that Rome would place a runner in a score position, the rest of the game came in the second half of the fifth inning when Colby Jones banged a single and went to second place at a wild pitch, but the emperors could not convey him.
(57-49) Augusta Greenjackets 13, (52-58) Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 1
- Cody Miller, 3B: 2-6, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R
- Owen Carey, LF: 2-6, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 R
- Luis Guanipa, RF: 2-4, RBI, 2 R, 2 BB
- Cam Caminiti, SP: 4 IP, 5 H, Er, 3 BB, 4 K
While David McCabe has set up the best individual performances among Braves-prospects, the Augusta Greenjackets get the honor to merge the best collective outing on Wednesday.
In total, the Greenjackets crossed the record 13 times on 19 hits while working six walks in the process. What is more impressive is that every greenjacket in the starting line-up has added at least two hits-with the exception of Joe Olsavsky who went 1-3 with an RBI, scored a run and a few walks on his credit.
Cody Miller continued his hot streak since he came to Augusta, with a double, three RBI and two points scored in the night. With his performance, Miller raised his season-Ops to .925 over 32 battle rates. It is perhaps a small sample size, but Miller has absolutely damaged the ball and has made hard contact, which has led him to demonstrably have the best overall start under all the recent concept choices from Atlanta.
Other offensive striking on the day are Owen Carey who tripled and brought two points home, and Luis Guanipa who continues to show that he has taken that next step when it comes to plate discipline and a sense of the zone, while the right-wing 2-4 went with a few walks in the night.
Normally, when Cam Caminiti is on the hill, the young Lefty is usually the conversation of Augusta’s game. While again he was an excellent four-running ball, while he hit four, was sufficient to overshadow the attacking output to overshadow what another important performance of Caminiti was.
In what his tenth start was for Augusta, Caminiti continues to lower his era at the low-a-level. For the greenjackets, Caminiti has posted a fantastic 2.29 ERA in 39.1 innings that were thrown up to this point and threw 55 batters on the way.
