Bonus days in Michigan

The eighteenth in Washtenaw.

We are in golf bonus season here in Michigan.

In some years snow has fallen in mid-October. The snow has held off more often, but temperatures have struggled to get above 40 degrees during the day.

On the bonus days this past week – and hopefully next week – we’ve had clear, sunny days in the 50s.

Sunny makes a big difference. I’ve always thought that when the sun shines, the air feels ten degrees warmer than the thermometer indicates.

The sixteenth at Washtenaw.

In reality, it seems like everything is now a month behind. Many trees are only now starting to turn. In my backyard the plane trees are still green.

Autumn will really test a greenkeeper’s patience as the leaves that are crushed and swept away in the morning are replaced with new ones later in the day. The crew at Washtenaw Golf Club deserves kudos for how hard they work on it.

Other courses I have played have just been abandoned.

NOT Washtenaw, but I’m not going to name the course. I hit the fairway here and never found the ball.

I really hope this good weather lasts another week as I hope to add a few more courses to my ‘collection’ this season.
