Bondi Beach attacker exposed as family claims they have ‘no idea’ of his radical beliefs

A new image of Sajid Akram, the alleged gunman responsible for the Bondi Beach terror attack that claimed 15 lives and injured more than 40, has been revealed.

When his identity was revealed, his family expressed their shock, claiming they were unaware of his “radical mentality” or the “circumstances that led to his radicalization.” The Mirror reports this..

The 50-year-old is believed to have launched an attack on a Jewish Hanukkah party at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, along with his son Naveed. Sajid was shot dead by police on the spot.

His 24-year-old son, who recently emerged from a coma, has been charged with 59 crimes, including 15 murders. Police have confirmed that the terror attack was inspired by ISIS.

Further details about Sajid Akram have been released by authorities. He came from Hyderabad, a technology and pharmaceutical hub in India, where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce before moving to Australia on a student visa in 1998.

In 2001, he switched to a partner visa after marrying Naveed’s mother, Venera. During this period, the alleged shooter made six trips back to India.

However, he did not return in 2017 when his father died, and his family in India said they were unaware of his extremist beliefs, according to police.

An Indian Police spokesperson revealed: “The family members have indicated that they are not aware of his case [Sajid’s] radical thinking or activities, nor of the circumstances that led to his radicalization. The factors that led to Sajid Akram’s radicalization do not appear to be related to India or any local influence in Telangana.

As for his visits, the most recent visit appears to have taken place in 2022. According to officials, these took place in the context of family or property-related matters.

It is clear that communication with his relatives has become increasingly sporadic recently.

This new information from Indian law enforcement coincides with the emergence of a clear photo a week after the horrific incident. The time this photo was taken is still unknown, although it has been widely shared among Australian news outlets.

Australian officials are simultaneously conducting their own investigation into a trip the father and son took to the Philippines prior to the terror incident. Immigration authorities have determined that the duo left for the Southeast Asian country on November 1, although the motive behind the excursion has yet to be determined.
