Hall of Fame -manager Bobby Cox first returned to Truist Park in more than a year ago – and only the second time since 2019 – while the Atlanta Braves the World Series Championship team of 1995 celebrated against the New York Mets prior to tonight match.
The majority of the players and coaching staff of the team were for the event for the event. Hall of Fame, John Smoltz, Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine threw the first throw to the current Braves Hurston Waldrep, Sean Murphy and Spencer Schwellenbach.
Among the members of the team that were going on today were David Justice, Javy Lopez, chipper Jones, Fred McGriff, Mark Lemkle, Marquis Grissom, Ryan Klesko, Mark Wohlers, Greg McMicheal, Kent Mercer, Mike Devereaux and Alejandro Peña.
The highlight of the ceremony was the appearance of Cox, which was in the stadium, but not on the field. He suffered in 2019 and has since made a limited number of public performances. Now 84, Cox spent 25 years as manager of Atlanta more than two stints.
A former third Honkman of the big league at the New York Yankees, he also managed the Toronto Blue Jays and was Braves General Manager before returning to the Dugout as during the 1990 season. He retired after the 2010 season and was chosen in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.
