BMW’s answer to the G-Class is coming

“BMW” and “Off-Roading” rarely appear in the same sentence as you are of course talking about the one time we took an X5 rock-crowling. But with the growing popularity of rugged SUVs, the largest car maker from Bavaria now sees its own alternative to the enormously successful Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

According to a report from Automotive newsBMW is seriously considering a specially built off-road SUV in the same vein as the G-Class Die recently celebrated the 600,000th unit produced. The report mentions company insiders who claim that production could start in the second half of 2029 in BMW’s Spartanburg, South Carolina, factory.

Internal code name G74, the new SUV is said to be on an improved version of the BMW X5 platform. It is also expected that it will serve as a successor to the XM, BMW’s Halo SUV, which is expected to leave the Line -up in 2028 after a lukewarm reception.

As a quasi-replacement for the XM, the first dedicated off-roader from BMW will not be cheap. The XM currently starts at $ 160,775 in the US, with the label trim with higher output label now the only version available after the basic model is discontinued. For comparison, the entry -level employees Mercedes G550 starts at $ 149,400.

Of course, if you like to go off-road in a BMW today, the brand offers a more robust version of the X5. Equipped with the Xoffroad package-including All-Terrain tires, a modest driving height lift and not much otherwise the X5 at $ 80.175.
