BMW Group Malaysia has joined forces with the Selangor Technical Development Center (STDC) to take electric vehicle technical and vocational education in Malaysia to the next level through the BMW Next Generation Technician (BMW NextGT) programme.

STDC’s technical automotive trainers will undergo hands-on training under the BMW Technician Qualification Framework, with specialist modules covering today’s modern automotive technologies and concepts.

They will then pass on the knowledge to qualified vocational students enrolled in the BMW NextGT programme, which builds on the BMW Technical Training Program and the BMW High Voltage Expert (HVE) certification program in Malaysia.

The BMW NextGT program is expected to be rolled out in 2026, starting with a partnership involving Auto Bavaria, Millennium Welt and Quill Automobiles as initial dealer partners. The intention is for the initiative to be expanded to more BMW dealers from 2027.

“Today, the automotive industry is undergoing its most transformative era, and with it comes the need for a workforce that can drive this innovation forward. Our partnership with STDC through the BMW NextGT program is built on the foundation of the belief that investing in education and technical development is essential to shaping the future of mobility in Malaysia.

“By equipping trainers and students with the skills and knowledge that align with BMW’s global standards, we are cultivating the next generation of Malaysian talent capable of leading the transition to the future of the automotive industry here,” said BMW Group Malaysia MD Benjamin Nagel.

“We are honored by the trust that BMW Group Malaysia has placed in the Selangor state government through this partnership with the STDC. The BMW NextGT program reflects Selangor’s commitment to cultivating the next generation of Malaysian talent capable of leading the transition to sustainable future mobility.

“We sincerely appreciate BMW Group Malaysia’s confidence in nurturing local talent. This initiative demonstrates the power of government-industry partnership in promoting technical and vocational excellence, while equipping our youth with world-class skills and knowledge to position Selangor as a leading hub for advanced automotive technology and sustainable innovation in the region,” said Selangor Chief Minister Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
