Blues Forward could benefit from a fresh start amid stronger play

The St. Louis Blues, like every other NHL franchise, are using the Olympic break to assess their roster. As sellers, and now that the unofficial deadline has passed, the official 2026 NHL trade deadline becomes quite important. There is speculation surrounding several players, including forward Jordan Kyrou.

Experienced analyst Jeff Marek presented on The leaf podcast on February 6 that the 27-year-old winger could benefit from a fresh start. “He could probably use a change of scenery, and I’m pretty sure St. Louis would be happy to afford him that,” Marek said, hinting at the growing interest in a potential trade.

Despite the rumours, Kyrou was a standout for the Blues heading into the break. He scored eight points in his last four games, increasing his season total to 32 points in 47 games. Some of his last seven games included four multi-point games, with two impressive three-point games, and he finished at +2.

Marek suggested that Kyrou was “very good at a time when it was hard to be good.” With so much talk surrounding the Blues and various distractions based on what St. Louis might do amid a lackluster and uneven season, it’s easy to fall into a slump. And inconsistency is something Kyrou has struggled with in the past.

Jordan Kyrou could be traded before the 2026 NHL deadline

Kyrou, a former first-round pick (35th overall in 2016), is the kind of winger a contender could look to to boost his scoring. However, he is tied to a contract until the end of the 2029/30 season. A non-candidate looking for a top-six offensive weapon could also find him a fit. With the salary cap continuing to rise, his $8.125 million cap hit may not be a bargain, but it is potentially good value.

Only once was he a point-per-game player in the NHL. Yet he regularly scored more than 70 points in a season. The Blues are looking to shed cap space, and while they won’t be giving away Kyrou, St. Louis is reportedly open to significant roster moves.

Whether he stays in St. Louis or lands elsewhere, his performances over the past few weeks make it clear: Kyrou is the kind of player who can offer big rewards to a team willing to take risks.
