Nestled in the town of Wentworth Falls in the Blue Mountains is a home that stands out from the usual real estate offerings near Sydney.
At 100 Blaxland Rd, this reconstruction of a castle into an English Tudor mansion has striking medieval features, from parapet walls, a working moat and drawbridge to a tower entrance.
Surrounded by enchanting gardens, the four-bedroom, two-bathroom residence is adjacent to the Wentworth Falls Golf Course.
According to the real estate agent, it divides home-seeking couples.

The operating moat and drawbridge entrance to the house
“It was built about 40 years ago by a very eccentric English teacher at Blue Mountains Grammar school, who built it deliberately as a castle,” said estate agent John Chapman of John Chapman Superior Sales.
The castle’s features include a working moat and drawbridge access.
“It has wheels in it so you can pull it up,” Chapman said. “There is also an internal portcullis.”

The house is decorated with armor, swords…
The current owners are a couple from Sydney. They decorated the house according to a theme, including armor, swords and even a throne.
The renovation works included heating the entire stone ground floor through individual sections, a new roof, two new bathrooms and a large laundry room with a powder room.
“It fell into disrepair over the years,” Chapman said.
“Then it was bought by an interesting couple from Sydney, both doctors, and they spent a lot of money on it. They replaced the asbestos roof, they spent about $300,000 to $400,000 on the ground floor – and turned it into a modern open plan space with granite floors and heating and a modern kitchen.”

The house has undergone a major contemporary renovation downstairs
A contemporary bathroom in your home
“They’ve very carefully preserved all the original stone and things. When you walk in, you can’t tell that there’s been a major renovation; it just looks stunningly modern.”
In recent years, the property has been used as an Airbnb with a price of around $600 per night.
“The owners deliberately designed it as an Airbnb and converted the ground floor into their own private room with a beautiful bathroom and made it lockable,” said Chapman.
“One family has consistently celebrated it every Christmas and spent their Christmas in the castle.”

Mr Chapman said they had expected to sell the house in the blink of an eye.
“Personally, I love it,” he said. “You can literally drag a ball from the back lawn to the second fairway.
“It’s not exactly dramatically priced either.”
While there has been strong interest from buyers, Chapman says this comes with couples disagreeing with one person loving the house and the other not so keen on the medieval features.
“Couples came and one loved it and the other said, I don’t live in a castle,” he said.
“Then, of course, we only had a few occasions where we both loved it, but then there were things like children’s education or whatever normally happens.”
Located within the Golden Mile of Wentworth Falls, within walking distance of the village of restaurants, cafes and shops and close to Wentworth Falls Lake and the Upper Blue Mountains.
“The table on the back lawn is one of the most picturesque in the Blue Mountains,” Chapman said.
“It’s remarkably close to the city.”
The home is listed with a price guide of $1.7 million to $1.77 million.
