Blue Jays select Jake Bloss and Ricky Tiedemann and assign three others to Minor League camp

After a pair of shutout wins on Sunday afternoon, the team announced a handful of roster moves, sending Jake Bloss and Ricky Tiedemann to the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, while Tanner Andrews, Nate Garkow and Chay Yeager were reassigned to Minor League camp.

ROSTER MOVES: 🔹 RHP Jake Bloss and LHP Ricky Tiedemann have been selected to Triple-A 🔹 RHPs Tanner Andrews, Nate Garkow and Chay Yeager have been transferred to Minor League camp

That’s not particularly good news for the 23-year-old left-handed pitcher, as Tiedemann was once considered the Blue Jays’ top player but was injured for much of 2023 (biceps), 2024 and 2025 (Tommy John surgery). When healthy, he has great stuff and a fastball that can reach the upper 90s.

Bloss, acquired by the Blue Jays in the Yusei Kikuchi trade with the Houston Astros in 2024, made just six starts with the Bisons last season before also being shut down due to Tommy John surgery. He hasn’t experienced much since joining the organization, posting a 6.91 ERA and 5.87 FIP in 27.1 innings after the trade. Before the injury, the 24-year-old had a 6.46 ERA and 4.76 FIP in 23.2 innings.

Still, there’s the potential of a mid-rotation starter in Bloss, and hopefully he’ll return to action for the Bisons sooner or later, as the Jays can always use some more pitching depth.

As you can see from Bloss and Tiedemann, quite a few Blue Jays pitchers have had Tommy John surgery in recent seasons. One prospect who had it in February was Chay Yeager. Drafted in the 12th round of the 2023 draft, Yeager posted a 2.75 ERA and 3.45 FIP in 55.2 innings pitched between High-A and Double-A last season, with a 29.1 K% and 9.1 BB%. The 23-year-old right-hander is one of the better prospects for the Blue Jays.

Another interesting relief prospect in the system is Nate Garkow. Everyone knows Trey Yesavage, Johnny King and Gage Stanifer struck out a ton last season, but Garkow finished with the third highest K% last season at 38.7%. The 28-year-old struggled in High-A, posting a 7.56 ERA and 3.87 FIP in 16.2 innings pitched, but had a sparkling 1.22 ERA and 2.18 FIP in 37 innings in Double-A after a promotion.

Andrews, 30, signed a minor league deal in late November. In three Spring Training innings, he has not given up an earned run and has struck out four of the ten batters he has faced. Last season, he played in 14 games with the Double-A team of the Minnesota Twins, where he had a 3.78 ERA and 2.01 FIP.
