The Blue Jays announced tonight that they have designated more infielder Orelvis Martinez for assignment. The move allowed the club to activate I am almost From the 60-day wounded list and options to Triple-A Buffalo. Martinez, 24 in November, was a consensus top 100 prospect as recent as the 2024 season. He made his main class debut in June last year, but received a suspension of 80 games after testing positive for Clomiphens, a forbidden performance-enhancing substance, just a week later. Martinez had only appeared in one MLB match at the time of his suspension and did not return to the Majors, because the Blue Jays held him to Triple-A everywhere before the end of the 2024 season and everywhere in 2025.
Although Toronto’s decision not to bring Martinez to the Majors for the last weeks of the 2024 campaign, could at least be related to his suspension, it is difficult to see that he will not return to the large competitions as something other than on performance based. Martinez struggled poorly on Triple-A during the IS-23-year campaign and only cut .176/.288/.348 over 394 record performances in 99 games. He hit a raised clip of 28.4% and knew only 13 gayers, a huge decrease in power compared to what he had shown in previous seasons, including his 28 homers in 129 Triple-A competitions between 2023 and ’24.
While Martinez seemed completely lost this year, the relative young people in combination with his former top perspectation status may be enough to get him attention from other organizations. He has experience at second base, the third base and short stop in his career in the Minor League, although he has usually moved from short stop in recent years.
