Wesley Lepatner, Chief Executive Officer of Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust (Breit) and an old senior leader at Blackstone, was one of the victims of a tragic shooting that took place on Monday at the Headquarters Park Avenue.

Blackstone confirmed her death in an official statement released on Tuesday.

Prior to her CEO role, LePatner served as Chief Operating Officer of BREIT and held board membership roles, helping shape its strategic direction and growth. Under her stewardship, BREIT maintained a portfolio heavily concentrated in high-growth sectors such as data centers, logistics, and rental housing—sectors benefiting from long-term structural trends.

The shooting occurred during working hours at 345 Park Avenue in Manhattan, resulting in multiple casualties, including LePatner, private security officers, and an NYPD officer.

Following the incident, Blackstone closed its New York office and offered support resources to employees. Blackstone CEO Stephen A. Schwarzman and President Jon Gray described the tragedy as “the worst day in the firm’s 40-year history” in a message to staff.

The news has deeply shaken the real estate and investment communities, with tributes pouring in for LePatner’s leadership and legacy. Known for her strategic vision and tireless dedication, she leaves behind a lasting mark on the real estate industry.
