Blackburn Rovers are reportedly ready to sack Makhtar Gueye in January, meaning the signing of a new striker.
Blackburn Rovers face an important transfer window in January. With a game in hand against most of the teams around them, they sit 19th in the Championship table, four points off the drop and nine points off the play-offs.
Valerien Ishmael will know that next month’s outcome will determine the course of their campaign. It means doing business right, but with new signings in mind, among those who could leave is Makhtar Gueye.
The striker has scored no goals in 16 games in all competitions this season. Andri Gudjohnsen has found form and partnered with Yuki Ohashi, but if Gueye leaves, cover and competition will be needed.
That said, we’ve highlighted three strikers for Blackburn Rovers to keep an eye on as a move away from Gueye awaits…
Taisei Miyashiro – Vissel Kobe
Blackburn Rovers have signed some solid Japanese players in recent times. They could find another in the form of striker Taisei Miyashiro, who plays in his native country with Vissel Kobe.
At 25, Miyashiro scored 11 goals and five assists in 34 J-League games last season and also has three in five games in the AFC Champions League. In total, he contributed 16 goals and six assists in 46 games in all competitions.
Joining Ryoya Morishita and compatriot Ohashi, the Tokyo-born forward could be a smart addition to Blackburn Rovers’ ranks. His contract currently expires at the end of January, but has an option to extend.
Jayden Dance – Liverpool
Jayden Danns is a prospect who has fallen back somewhat after his first notable breakthrough at Liverpool. An injury meant his Sunderland loan never materialized and he has been working his way back ever since.
However, the 19-year-old could benefit from senior loan exposure in the new year. Blackburn Rovers could be ideal as he would come in as third choice but wouldn’t be under the physical pressure of starting every game – which could be sensible given his fitness issues in 2025.
Danns has proven himself as a striker with clinical finishing and flair. Loan slots are available for Rovers and can be filled as a short-term solution.
Jayden Danns’ Liverpool stats
| Team | Games | Goals | Assists |
| Liverpool | 10 | 3 | 0 |
| The U21 pool | 15 | 5 | 2 |
| L’pool U18s | 33 | 24 | 4 |
Tawfik Bentayeb – ESTAC Troyes
Last but not least, there is an option on the continent. Blackburn Rovers have been recruiting mainly from abroad in recent times, so they may be looking at someone like Tawfik Bentayeb in their striker hunt.
For the second season in a row, the 23-year-old has been loaned to Moroccan side Union Touraga in the French Ligue 2. After 11 goals in 30 games for Rodez AF last season, Bentayeb has eight goals in 10 games for ESTAC Troyes this season.
Bentayeb would be slightly different to Ohashi and Gudjohnsen, with solid pace and clearly solid goal instincts. His loan situation may be an obstacle that can’t be overcome, but his form certainly warrants interest and a tempting standing offer could prompt a recall.
