Wealdstone, two sides looking to make up some ground in the play-off chase, welcome Tamworth to Middlesex on Wednesday evening.
Starting with the hosts, who claimed a vital boost at the weekend when they recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win at home to Woking, Sam Cox’s men are desperate for vital stability in the National League. Kicking off the New Year with a routine 2-0 defeat at Carlisle, the Middlesex outfit claimed just one point from their five clashes either side of the 2026 opener. Similarly, the Stones have recorded just one win from their previous nine consecutive National League appearances – a run that stretches back to a 1-0 win against Braintree on November 8. But knowing they can move within touching distance of the play-off places here, Cox’s side will be excited about their extensive success in Grosvenor Vale. Including back-to-back 1-0 wins against Woking and Dagenham & Redbridge, Wealdstone have won four of their last five games in front of their own supporters.
As for the visitors, while Tamworth might have opened the new year with a 3-1 win against relegation scrappers Gateshead, the Lambs find themselves in an almost identical position to Wednesday’s opponents. Andy Peaks’ men missed what they billed as a golden opportunity last weekend when they ultimately had to settle for a 0-0 stalemate at Truro, and have shown some rather worrying issues away from Staffordshire too. Hit by a woeful 7-1 thrashing by Solihull Moors on Boxing Day, Tamworth have registered just one point from each of their previous four National League games away from the Lamb Ground. Including a 3-1 defeat to Scunthorpe, the midweek hosts have also managed just one win on their travels since mid-October. It should also be noted that the Peaks side have scored seventeen goals in their last six road encounters.
