Facepalm: Take-Twos Bioshock 4 has been developing for more than ten years. Now, managers have dismissed the studio head, relegated the creative director and ordered a complete rewriting, so that the future of the project doubt. Fans have been wondering for a long time when The game is launched – but perhaps the real question is: shall It?
Take-Two is overhaul The long-standing episode in the Bioshock series after an internal review of top managers at 2K games left dissatisfied with the progress of the game. The project, led by Take-Two subsidiary Cloud Chamber, has been developing for more than ten years and has shifted between several studios. Anonymous insiders told Bloomberg that the review has chosen the story of the game as a weak point, so that leadership had a complete rewriting in the coming months.
As part of the Shake-Up, 2K Cloud Chamber Studio Hoofd Kelley Gilmore and the creative director Hogarth de la Plante devoted again to a publication role. It is unclear who fills those positions. Business officials informed the staff of the leadership changes during a recent meeting, where they also emphasized the need for more efficiency and agility. That message has fired internal fears for possible fired.
A spokesperson for 2K confirmed the leadership changes and repeated the company’s dedication to deliver a bioshock game that meets the high expectations of fans.
“We work hard to set up Bioshock for the best possible future,” said the publisher. “We have a good game at the moment, but we are committed to deliver a great one. We work closely with leadership in the studio to define this path.”
The BioShock franchise remains one of the commercially successful gaming, with more than 43 million copies sold in its three titles. However, it has been more than a decade ago since the last release – Bioshock Infinite 2013 – and updates about the next game have been sporadic.
In 2019, Takewo confirmed the development of the new Bioshock under the newly formed Cloud Chamber Studio – located in Novato, California and Montreal. Since then, the company has held details under Wraps and offers little more than occasionally reassuring that the game was still in the making.
The publisher also had a remake of the original BioShock in development, but quietly shot the project earlier this year. The movement reflects the shifting priorities of 2K because it focuses on developing the new episode.
In January, game linked Bioshock 4 for release somewhere next year. That prediction came before managers ordered the studio to rewrite the game completely – a setback that far from the next episode far from. Although 2K has not shared a target release window, a launch of 2026 now seems unlikely. The renewed focus of the company on overhauling the story and retool management points to a project that still has trouble finding his foot.
