A man is said to have kidnapped his lover’s one-year-old child after she refused to marry him. This led to a swift multi-state police operation that led to his arrest in Kanpur.

According to the information provided, the suspect, Hemant Kumar, a resident of Bihar, was in a relationship with a woman living in Delhi’s Kapashera area. Hemant wanted to marry her and reportedly traveled from Bihar to Delhi three days ago to convince her. However, the woman refused and told him that she was already married and had a one-year-old child, and therefore could not marry him.

Angered by her refusal, Hemant reportedly believed that the child was the biggest obstacle to their marriage. Taking advantage of the situation, he kidnapped the one-year-old child on the pretext of buying toys and took the child directly to a railway station in Delhi. He then boarded the Vikramshila Express bound for Bihar, sitting with the child in the general carriage.

During the journey, some passengers questioned him as the child cried. Hemant allegedly told them that the child’s mother was unwell and he was taking the child to his grandmother in Bihar.

Meanwhile, when the woman could not find her child at home, she contacted Hemant. He allegedly told her that he was taking the child with him as she refused to marry him and go to Bihar. He reportedly said that if she wanted her child back, she would have to come to Bihar and marry him.

Shocked and saddened, the woman pleaded for the child’s return, but this was denied. She then immediately approached the Kapashera West Police Station and filed a complaint. Hemant had also informed her that he was traveling on the Vikramshila Express.

Following the complaint, Delhi Police alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF). Though the train had already left Delhi, Delhi Police shared the details with RPF officials in Kanpur. Based on the information, the RPF team became alert.

At around 8.10 pm, as soon as the Vikramshila Express reached Kanpur Central Station, RPF personnel surrounded the general coach and began a search. Hemant was found sitting in the crowded bus, trying to hide the child after spotting the police. He was detained along with the child and taken to the RPF police station in Kanpur Central.

Initially, Hemant reportedly tried to mislead the police by claiming that the child was his and that he was returning home. However, after being confronted with the complaint filed in Delhi, he admitted that he had kidnapped the child to force his lover to come to Bihar and marry him.

The RPF informed the Delhi Police about the arrest. A Delhi Police team reaches Kanpur to take Hemant Kumar and the child back to Delhi for further legal proceedings.

RPF Inspector SN Patidar said, “Based on the information provided by Delhi Police, the lover was arrested from the train along with the child. He kidnapped the child to force the woman to come to Bihar for marriage. He will be handed over to Delhi Police.”
