The Central Board of Directors of the Reserve Bank of India approved the appointment of Indranil Bhattacharyya, executive director (ED), good as an ex-officio member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).

This appointment comes as the current ex-officio member of the MPC Rajiv Ranjan, Ed, retires.

RBI had appointed Bhattacharyya as ED with effect from March 19, 2025.

Prior to his promotion as ED, he served as an adviser to the Monetary Policy Department of the Bank.

The Tarief Panel of the Central Bank has six members – three internal members (Governor Sanjay Malhotra, deputy governor Poonam Gupta and Ed Rajiv Ranjan); and three external members (Negesh Kumar, Director and Chief Executive, Institute for Studies in Industrial Development, New Delhi; Saugata Bhattacharya, Economist, Mumbai; and Ram Singh, Director, Delhi School of Economics),

In the meantime, the board, which came together in Lunkknow, the emerging global and domestic economic landscape, including the geopolitical and financial market developments and associated challenges.

It also assessed the functioning of selected central office departments of the bank and also of Committees of Central Board and the Ombudsman scheme.
