The American photographer who developed the solarization technique together with Man Ray will be the protagonist from 1 October to 1 February of an exhibition in the Camera – Italian Center for Turin’s photo, compiled by the artistic director of Chamber Walter Guadagnini. More than 160 images of the Lee Miller archives, many of which are not published, will offer a public and private interpretation of his work and his extraordinary personality.
The exhibition entitled Lee Miller. Working 1930-1955It will be a chance to start the celebrations for the ten years of the center that a large and articulated program will propose that is devoted to the world of photography in its infinite facets.
The employee of “Vogue”, the architect, for the most famous fashion magazine, of services dedicated to the world of Haute Couture, but also of unexpected images that combine style and daily life in London injured by German bomb attacks, at the end of the war he realizes his most famous services. In his photos, the tragic images of the concentration camps alternate with those of the defeat of Nazi Germany, with suicide officers, the destroyed cities, the summer house of Hitler in the handle of flames.
From the post -war period he retreats, together with the new husband Roland Penrose, in the Sussex campaign, where he welcomed his artists’ friends, and then set aside his photographic obligation until he abandoned him. In this apparently only family images we still read the subversive and ironic genius of one of the greatest photographers of the twentieth century.
The exhibition, which will approach the artistic, professional and biographical path of the author, will be accompanied by a catalog published by Dario Cimorelli Editore and by a program of image education -initiatives, sharing and participation aimed at different publications by age and training.
