Bengaluru woman walking mauled by dog; gets 50 stitches on face, neck, legs

A woman was seriously injured after she was attacked by a dog during her morning walk in Bengaluru’s HSR Layout on January 26. The incident took place at around 6.54 am at the teachers’ colony, reportedly in front of the survivor’s house.

According to police, the dog, owned by a man identified as Amaresh Reddy, suddenly attacked the woman and bit her on the neck, face, hands and legs. The injuries were serious and she was rushed to a hospital for immediate treatment.

Doctors who treated the survivor said she required extensive medical care, and reports indicated that more than 50 stitches had been placed in her face and neck. Hospital staff continue to monitor her condition as she continues to receive treatment.

A bystander who tried to intervene and save the woman was also bitten during the attack. Although details of the bystander’s injuries have not been made public, both individuals received medical attention following the incident.

After the attack, the woman’s husband filed a complaint with the HSR Layout police station, alleging negligence on the part of the dog owner. The police have filed a report and started an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.

Authorities are currently recording statements from witnesses and reviewing evidence to establish a clear sequence of events. Officials have not yet confirmed what legal action could be taken against the dog owner.

The incident has raised concerns among local residents, with many questioning pet safety measures and the responsibilities of owners in residential areas.

The woman remains hospitalized as the investigation continues.
